Following the Crowd ~ A Geomancy Reading
Instead of using the traditional shield chart to look at geomancy influences for today, I chose to use the House chart to look at how the runes interact with the astrological Houses. I initially created a shield chart to discover each rune and then transferred each one into their respective Houses, placing the final Right/Left Witnesses and the Judge/Outcome in the center along with Sorath, the spirit governing Fortuna Minor, the rune occupying the 1st House.
I didn’t have a question to answer or a specific situation to understand when I developed the chart. Instead, I decided that I would see it as a message I was attempting to understand, taking a sort of what am I looking at here approach.
The breakdown of the chart and interpretations appear below:
- Fortuna Minor – minor fortune – describes an individual who makes steady and/or incremental progress
- Tristitia – loss or sadness – suggests loss or decrease in the area of possessions, property, or self-worth
- Populus – harmony and flow within a group – indicates feelings of unity or shared direction with siblings; favors positive communication and a shared belief or understanding
- Carcer – self-imprisonment – feeling imprisoned by responsibility
- Carcer – self-imprisonment – imprisoned by circumstances that hamper creativity or play
- Laetitia – joy – health matters likely improve today or you receive good news surrounding the health of others
- Populus – harmony and flow within a group – suggests harmony or shared purpose with a partner or partners
- Acquisitio – gain – may receive an inheritance or you may experience anxiety over a change in circumstances
- Puer – young boy, impulsivity – you may feel impatient due to feeling stuck at home or with other imposed restrictions
- Carcer – self-imprisonment – restrictions are experienced at work or regarding social standing
- Tristitia – loss or sadness – a relationship may experience challenges or may even end; dreams are delayed
- Acquisitio – gain – increased fear and restriction
- Rubeus – passion, evil – Right Witness – a self-absorbed attitude that does not respect the rights of others
- Rubeus – passion, evil – Left Witness – a self-absorbed attitude that does not respect the rights of others
- Populus – harmony and flow within a group – Judge/Outcome
Right away we see there are duplicates within the chart: Tristitia, Aquisitio, and Rubeus appear twice, Populus and Carcer – three times; while Laetitia, Fortuna Minor, and Puer each appear once. We can divide their effect further by listing the runes according to their energetic effect: increase, decrease, and one that reflects its surroundings:
Increase
- Aquisitio (2)
- Laetitia (1)
- Fortuna Minor (1)
Decrease
- Tristitia (2)
- Rubeus (2)
- Carcer (3)
- Puer (1)
Neutral/Reflective
- Populus (3)
It’s easy to see from the table above that most of the influences describe a decrease of some kind and quite possibly a negative or harmful impact or influence. Additionally, any rune considered to be neutral or reflective can take on the characteristics of, in the case of Populus, the group dynamic itself. So, if a group is a problematic influence, the individual tends to take on those same characteristics.
Overall, it appears that this chart describes someone looking for acceptance within a particular group, but it may not be the best one to join. Fortuna Minor in the 1st House of the self, identity, and new beginnings, describes an individual who experiences steady or incremental progress in life, but then we see that Tristitia follows in the 2nd House with sadness and loss experienced suggesting a change in possessions or self-worth has taken place.
Tristitia appears again in the 11th House of friendship suggesting loss concerning relationships with others potentially reinforced by the loss of self-worth experienced in the 2nd House. And when you consider the negative influence of Rubeus in both the Left and Right Witnesses positions, the chart may be describing someone who refuses to respect the rights of others and could be seeking community or alignment with others who express the same. Laetitia in the 6th House suggests that the group focus may involve attitudes or beliefs surrounding the pandemic and health.
Populus appearing in both the 3rd House of communication and the 7th House of partnership indicates harmony with others in both but given the neutral effect of Populus, we don’t really know in what direction this goes. In other words, how that unity is expressed is entirely dependent upon the partner or group in question. All we really know for certain is that this individual goes with the flow with respect to communication and partnership.
There may be some immaturity involved with this person as well as we see Carcer, or self-imprisonment appearing three times in the 4th, 5th, and 10th Houses, suggesting that this individual may have difficulty either managing or fulfilling responsibilities, particularly at the workplace, preferring to play instead of work. Puer reinforces this impulsivity as well.
In summary, then, it appears that this chart describes an individual who is most comfortable within a group structure where he can follow along with the crowd. Given the egoic influence of Rubeus appearing twice, this individual may feel drawn to groups that are self-absorbed and unable or unwilling to set aside that vision for one that incorporates the rights or safety of others.
Self-absorption also is expressed through Carcer appearing three times, reinforcing the perception of imprisonment or restriction by outside forces. The problem, unfortunately, isn’t outside this individual but fostered by his own grievance-based perceptions playing out in the 2nd and 11th Houses with Tristitia furthering on the loss of both financial security and harmonious relationships with others.
From there, the individual seeks others who experience life in the same manner. But in this case, to what end?
