Thoth Tarot ~ Remembrance
I really like this deck. The colors used are just wonderful in this spread, particularly the Princess of Disks. Three Trump cards balance three Court cards, two Princesses and one Prince. Princesses represent Elemental Earth, while the Prince represents Elemental Air. Combining both with Swords, Disks and Wands, we see their influence on suits reflecting Air, Earth and Fire energies respectively.
The spread begins with its signficator, The Chariot. Although the eighth card in the deck, its number is seven, a number representing among other things the Divine Feminine. Having mastered the concepts from the previous cards, the rider on the Chariot expresses alignment, balance and movement into a new phase.
Initial influences are represented by The Fool and the Prince of Wands. The Fool reminds us to be optimistic, think outside the box, and to manifest our new ideas by courageously taking risks. The Prince of Wands derives his passion, confidence and enthusiasm from Air’s influence on Fire resulting in a strong, honorable and generous person.
The Universe sits between two Earthy Princesses balancing projective/receptive energies (M/F) on the lowest level of the spread. The Princess of Swords reflects the interaction between Earth (Princess) and Air (Swords), depicting wisdom, focus, strength and grace. The Princess of Disks strengthens the interaction between Earth and Earth, expressing generosity, kindness and perseverance. The Universe sits in synthesis between the two suggesting fulfillment and integration.
This feels like a reading for a woman, so I’ll refer to the symbolic querent as female. She is moving into a new phase, having learned how to flow around obstacles and express herself with eloquence, integrity and wisdom. Influencing her journey are the Fool and the Prince of Wands. The Fool encourages her to proceed ahead with optimism and courage balanced by the passion generated from the interaction between Air (Prince) and Fire (Wands). Passion flows from this accomplished woman as she moves into her next phase of life with confidence and enthusiasm.
At the foundation level of the spread, Earthy Princesses sit on either side of the Universe. The Princess of Swords represents the interaction between Earth and Air. The Western Tattva Tarot describes this interaction as thought producing form, or Materialization. In the final position of the spread, the Princess of Disks represents the interaction between Earth and Earth, with Manifesting Force as the Western Tattva description. The Princesses of Swords and Disks balance wisdom and strength with kindness and generosity, integrating them into the grace of the Universe.
It’s interesting that the Chariot is the final card in the first group of Trumps. The Major Arcana separates into three sections, much like the 3 Aetts found in the Elder Futhark. Its position indicates completion of that initial phase, the Maiden aspect of her life. She’s ready as she moves into her Mother aspect, eager to learn all that the second grouping of cards has to teach before transitioning again to the Crone phase of her journey. The Universe sits at the end of her journey, a final integration of all she has learned along the way.
Maybe we’re all entering a new phase. Last week’s powerful full moon/eclipse suggests that we are. The reading also suggests that we’re ready for it. Perhaps, like the significator, it should reflect a more feminine energy, one filled with kindness, generosity and love as we journey toward remembrance.
