Sunday Tarot ~ Contemplation, Courage, and Awakening
The Haindl Tarot deck is complex and full of rich imagery and esoteric influences. The Major Arcana cards include an associated Hebrew letter, a rune from the Younger Futhark, and an astrological glyph. The Minor Arcana includes a hexagram (gua) from the I Ching, and the Court has been replaced with iconic individuals from humanity’s history.
The cards in today’s reading include two cards from the Major Arcana, and one from the suit of Wands: The Hermit, the 7 of Wands, and The Sun. The overall numerology is 8 signaling strength, leadership, self-confidence, and recognition from material achievement. The borders of the cards tell us the element that influences each card with Earth (yellow) influencing The Hermit, and Fire (red) influencing both the 7 of Wands and The Sun, so there is a heavier weight placed on expressions of will, success, and awakening.
Beginning with The Hermit, we see an old shepherd with a flowing beard standing atop a mountain holding a curved staff in his right hand and a lantern in his left. The lantern appears to draw in light from a white emanation above his head. Yod, the Hebrew letter for hand, appears in the upper left suggesting the Creator’s hand influencing the shepherd’s awareness, while Is/Isa, a rune from both the Elder and Younger Futharks signifies ice, the stillness within, alignment, and becoming. The glyph for Virgo appears at the lower right of the card suggesting earthly tradition. Birds surround the shepherd symbolizing wisdom and spiritual awareness. Gnomes, symbolize the elemental energies of our earthly existence. And an eye surrounded by a triangle signifies the all-seeing eye of the Creator observing creation.
Next, the 7 of Wands is titled, Courage. 7 flame-tipped spears rise up from craggy rocks, as they reach for a white sphere above representing divine awareness. This card depicts integrity and having the courage to rise up against challenges in a manner that reflects spiritual awareness instead of ego. The I Ching hexagram in the upper left-hand corner of the card signals liberation as we liberate ourselves from the ego’s hold and move forward on a new path.
Finally, The Sun suggests victory, awakening, and the expression of life force in its purest sense. We see a brilliant Sun shining above, its rays extending out to illuminate the landscape of our lives. It’s comprised of an intricate spiral that suggests the spiral flow of energy into the vortex of creation. Below, trees line a pathway that leads to a rose, symbolizing new beginnings, beauty, and hope, numinous and breathtaking as it glows in the Sun’s light. The Hebrew letter Resh, or head, appears in the upper left, Gebo, the rune for the gift of reciprocity and balanced energy from both the Elder and Younger Futharks, appears in the upper right, while the glyph for The Sun appears in the lower right of the card.

The reading describes contemplation with the Hermit, courage with the 7 of Wands, and awakening with The Sun, and suggests that we step away from the chaos found not only in our inner thoughts but also from the external world which surrounds us. We draw down awareness from Spirit to inform our thoughts as we seek an overall understanding of the world around us.
From there, we’re better able to manifest courage and resolve as we ready ourselves to meet challenges and explore new opportunities. We benefit from past experience and grow from challenges we’ve already faced.
As we awaken to new truth, we take a path filled with new beginnings in full clarity, eager to discover new ideas and experiences.
The cards suggest that we’re in a time of great awakening, and to more fully understand its message, we need to go within in contemplation of a higher truth. The path that opens before us is a shared one, and with higher awareness, any division that we’ve been experiencing is able to dissolve in service to a collective purpose.
Blessings to all!
