A Marriage Blessed – A Tarot and Runic Expression
Well, this witch and her dragon consort, i.e. the mother and father of the groom, couldn’t be happier for our son and his new wife. The wedding was lovely, the food was outstanding, and the fire dancers were amazing! Our new daughter-in-love has the most incredible family. Such love and commitment, such joy and unity with all of them. We clearly see where she gets her strong foundation. The wedding was attended by neuroscientists, martial artists (Jiu Jitsu and Kenpo), programmers, fishermen, and an uncle with a bandana and a wooden tie. The fire dancers doubled as pie deliverers on stilts and it was hilarious.
It was a geek paradise and my daughter-in-love was a vision, looking remarkably like a mermaid as she stood with my son, her green flowered dress draped just so, holding each other’s hands while exchanging their vows. Life long friends rounded out the bunch, my son’s former college roommate and his simply gorgeous wife bringing their five month old son to delight everyone, a pint sized version of my son’s dearest friend. I tear up just thinking about that beautiful child, watching as every computer programmer held and sang to him. Geeks and babies. There’s nothing like it.
We were blessed with so many people sharing stories with us about our son, and telling us how much they loved him. I have to say though, the martial artists touched our hearts the most. It’s not easy for parents who also are Black Belts and former instructors watch their child change martial arts systems, but Jui Jitsu seems to fit him far better than Kenpo did. They had such nice things to say about our son and we so appreciated hearing their lovely words.
Prior to the ceremony, I drew some runes and then decided to enhance the spread with Tarot. Perthro, Berkano and Laguz comprise the runecast. Perthro is the cauldron of transformation, spilling forth the mystery of fate. All things are possible with this rune. From there, Berkano invokes energies of Gaia, expressing the Divine Feminine as she brings about new beginnings. Femininity and motherhood are also represented by Berkano, suggesting unlimited creative potential. As the rune of the occult, Laguz casts out the net, gathering magickal energies to be used by the will. Great power is achieved through non-resistance to its flow. Abundance is in store.
Turning to the Tarot, The Magician begins the spread, followed by Strength and the 10 of Cups. Two Trump cards depicting our bride and groom and the abundance they have in store. The Magician teaches us to “allow for the possibility of”. It’s our life force, our manifestation of matter through alchemical will. The Magician as martial artist, representing creative force in action, each using skill and conscious focus to manifest their energy and power. Sitting in the same position as Perthro, all things are possible for this brilliant man.
Strength. Aleister Crowley renamed this card in his Thoth deck to Adjustment and calls it “the woman satisfied”. She represents justice, balance and unconditional love. She has the power of the Goddess within, describing my new daughter-in-love perfectly. She embodies wild wisdom, showing compassionate strength built on a firm foundation. Coupled with Berkano, she moves forward in her new life, in pursuit of new awareness and opportunity. We are in complete awe of this woman.
The 10 of Cups, a Water Element suit, illustrates abundance. Ten, in numerology, indicates lessons brought to their natural conclusion, in this case courtship followed by marriage. The 10 of Cups indicates joy, contentment and the culmination of love, the desired outcome achieved. They need do nothing but love each other. Everything else will fall into place. Let go of resistance and allow the flow of Laguz to take them beyond limits, ever higher in their life partnership.
Even the weather was spectacular, and for the Oregon coast, that’s no small feat.
They’ve been together a long time, yet they’ve only just begun their lives together. We couldn’t be happier for them!
~Blessed Be this amazing couple and our ever-expanding One Family!
