How Will the Future Play Out? ~ A Tarot Reading

If you’ve watched my twice-weekly rune and tarot videos, you probably already know how I see things. I believe that we’re in a continual struggle between light and dark or put another way, between soul and ego. The balance should be, in my opinion, more heavily weighted on the soul than on the ego. However, it’s clear that ego drives many in this collective experience we share at the expense of higher awareness. And it’s contributed to a level of division that seems insurmountable.

I performed a tarot reading the other day where I asked the question, how will things play out for women in the near future? I drew the 7 of Wands, the 3 of Swords, and the 5 of Wands. My initial reaction to the cards was, Oh boy. The overall numerology was six which involves harmony, assistance, and a shared path. But as far as a shared path goes, I suppose it depends on which path you’re on.

We see in the 7 of Wands, a man standing his ground on some sort of a precipice with a staff in his hand in self-defense against six other staffs below. Interesting way to begin the reading with the idea that we’ll need to stand our ground against opposing forces. But on which side of the equation? Soul or ego? Service to others or service to self? Especially when each perspective or side is viewed as correct.

We’ve already witnessed a Supreme Court impact reproductive/abortion rights for women in this country by giving states the opportunity to draft laws based on a draconian form of religion that may, in some cases, arrest and imprison women seeking medical care as well as anyone involved whether it be doctors, nurses, family, or friends. Some state legislatures are interested in stopping women from leaving the state to obtain an abortion. And Texas apparently wants consequences placed on corporations offering reimbursement to women if they are forced to travel outside of the state for care.

Confusion regarding ectopic pregnancies jeopardizes the lives of women all because the hospitals are afraid of repercussions from new state laws. If a miscarriage occurs, the woman may be suspected of causing the situation, and hospitals could be reluctant to perform a normal procedure to remove the dead tissue if it all doesn’t come out on its own. Accepted medical practices are being replaced by ideology at the expense of a woman’s dignity and scientific facts.

It’s the betrayal evidenced by the 3 of Swords that women are standing against. Roe v Wade has been settled law for decades now. But now that the balance of the Supreme Court appears to be Dominionist in their beliefs, did several of them at their Senate confirmation hearings lie when saying that Roe was settled law? Did they say that they’d do nothing to destroy our constitutional protections so that they could ultimately be in a position to overturn the law and leave it in the hands of state legislatures?

An interesting result of the state laws changing in such destructive ways involves the drug methotrexate. It’s both a chemo drug and a drug used for autoimmune conditions such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I took it for RA for five years until it began damaging my liver but for those who can tolerate the medication, it can give patients their autonomy back. But because it’s also used to terminate an early pregnancy as well as an ectopic pregnancy that hasn’t yet ruptured, women who need it for other issues are being refused the drug due to new state laws. Their health and quality of life are placed at risk unlike the men in these respective states who can continue taking methotrexate.

The 5 of Wands illustrates five young men, each one holding a staff, in conflict with each other. Although no one is getting hit with a staff, it appears that no one is listening to anyone else in the scene either, which seems to be what’s happening now in the states that prefer to legislate from superstition than from medical science. And it’s horrifying that there are actually women in state governments, as well as in Congress, who support these new laws. It brings to mind something the late Madeleine Albright said about there being “a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women”.

Because for me it comes down to one thing. If you don’t support abortion, don’t have one. But what will you do if your 11-year-old daughter is raped and becomes pregnant? Are you going to let her tiny body go through this nightmare or are you going to take her to get the medical procedure she needs? What happens if you have an ectopic pregnancy and you’re hemorrhaging and the hospital you go to is reluctant to help until it’s almost too late? What happens if you miscarry and instead of receiving the medical care you need you’re faced with questions from law enforcement? What happens if you’re diagnosed with cancer shortly after discovering you’re pregnant and you need to terminate the pregnancy so that you can receive treatment to save your life? Do you relocate to another state so that you get the treatment you need, or are you going to be at the mercy of state legislatures who clearly have lost sight of what it means to be merciful?

Kansas found out how voters felt the other day when the vote that was taken said no to the proposal to end abortion in the state. Clearly, women and their male allies stood their ground against this fundamental betrayal and inability to listen to the will of the people. Their vote reinforces the fact that a majority of people in the country support Roe v Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe abortion should she need one.

And in standing up against this betrayal, they created light out of darkness and paved the path for the rest of the country to stand its collective ground and protect the rights of women. In the end, will the majority prevail or will a small minority control the future of women and girls in this country? If what happened in Kansas is any indicator, the dignity of women and girls may prevail.

Blessed Be
