Tarot Card of the Week ~ The Magician
With one hand to Spirit and the other to the Earth, the Magician draws down elemental energy from the astral realm to manifest life into physical reality. The lemniscate above his head demonstrates the cyclical nature of existence, while the tools on the table before him represent not only the four suits of the Tarot but also the elements he uses in his magick. Governed by Mercury, The Magician embodies the development of the will, life force, inspiration, manifestation, and cunning, as well as the alchemical balance necessary in our lives.
The Cup on the table represents Elemental Water and the genesis of emotional awareness, while the Sword represents Elemental Air and the genesis of intellectual expression. The Wand represents Elemental Fire and the genesis of creativity and the invocation of will. And lastly, the Pentacle represents Elemental Earth and the genesis of our earthly expression.
Taken together, The Magician asks us to be mindful of both how and what we manifest, taking care that it begins in higher spiritual awareness. Does our creation reflect a fundamental balance between our intellectual, emotional, creative, and practical potential? Or is our creativity blocked or reduced by the ego?
