Tarot Card of The Week ~ 25 December 2022
A King sits on his throne holding a sword in his right hand, slightly askew in the King of Swords. Butterflies adorn the back of his throne with one butterfly in the center of two crescent Moons. Two birds reminiscent of Odin’s ravens, Huginn and Muninn, also known as thought and memory, fly above the fluffy clouds in the sky. Trees appear on either side of the King as he looks directly at the reader.
A card of the Court and of Elemental Air, the King of Swords describes an older man in authority who is intellectual, analytical, and clever. He’s a powerful ruler whose thought process is logical and fair. As with all other Court cards, The King of Swords also describes general qualities such as a leader who exercises judgment after careful analysis and objectivity. And, like the Queen, the King demands honesty and integrity from others. Additional keywords for the King of Swords include discernment, integrity, balance, and legal matters, along with careful planning and strategy.
When the King of Swords appears, it signals a need to analyze a situation with discernment and clarity, especially if in a leadership role, before coming to a conclusion. And, it suggests the ability to think independently and to implement decisions from an overall perspective.
