Tarot Card of the Week ~ 5 of Wands
The 5 of Wands shows five young men, each with a staff, appearing to fight one another, although no one is actually hitting anyone else. That said, the man in the center does seem to connect with the staff held by the man he’s facing. The initial interpretation of the scene suggests either competition or possibly creative conflict.
If this is an expression of creative differences, it could indicate that everyone is asserting their ideas at the same time with no one really listening. Or it could mean that a fight has broken out with no understanding of how it began or how long it’s been going on. All we can glean from the card is that something is wrong or something has changed and the five young men are none too happy about it.
When the 5 of Wands appears in a reading, it’s likely suggesting that you’re unable to get your point across because there are too many voices who wish to be heard. It could also indicate a disagreement, opposing views, or a clash of personalities. The five, given it’s an odd number, may give this card a forceful feeling, and along with the suit of Wands reflecting the Fire element, the 5 of Wands could be signaling a change that has resulted in a battle of wills.
On a personal level, the 5 of Wands may be asking the querent to explore how s/he asserts his/her own ideas and whether or not that’s done in a respectful manner, or if the goal is to dominate the conversation. A card of Saturn in Leo, there could be issues of control or restriction that are surfacing that need to be explored as well.
