Exploring Tarot: The 3 of Swords
Rain pours down from the clouds as three swords pierce a red heart, two of which appear behind the sword in the center. The 3 of Swords describes betrayal and emotional wounding. A card of Saturn in Libra, the need to find security within a partnership of some kind has been shattered somehow. Harmony is lost, as is trust, and all that is left is disappointment and grief.
The two swords behind the center one suggest that two parties have betrayed the third. This could involve slander or gossip, or possibly a relationship that has been concealed by a partner. Either way, this is a card that may lead to a decision that could possibly change everything. The heart itself suggests a deeply personal relationship has been damaged and may not recover due to the betrayal of trust that’s occurred.
This is a time to sit with your feelings for as long as necessary so that you can explore your inner truth and discover what you need to heal. Depending upon how significant the relationship was, the card’s numerology of three suggests a reintegration of sorts will eventually be necessary so that you can move past the hurt and betrayal that you feel and move on to a place where you can trust once again.
