Exploring Tarot: The 5 of Swords
A man picking up 3 swords looks back at two other men with an odd smile on his face. Two more swords lay on the ground while one man looks toward the other who stands closer to a large body of water appearing to hold his head in his hands. Sketchy grayish clouds appear in a blue sky.
An argument or battle has taken place with one man as the victor. The man closest to the water appears to express grief at the outcome while the other looks on. Given that the water isn’t smooth, along with the ragged look of the clouds, it suggests that although the battle is over, its harsh impact is still experienced.
The 5 of Swords suggests that it’s time to accept defeat and move on. Failure is a part of the human experience and can always provide insight for the future. When the 5 of Swords appears, it may be time to examine how you deal with loss or defeat and whether or not you become stuck in that moment and unable to move forward.
