As Above, So Below: Letting Go of Self-Imposed Restrictions
Below are the reading notes for today’s As Above, So Below reading. The video is available here.
Reading Notes:
For today’s significator runes, I drew Nauthiz and Carcer. Nauthiz, as the as above rune, represents the Norn rune of the future and involves the friction within, need, or inner will to overcome restriction so that you can pursue new goals and create change that is positive. Carcer, on the other hand, as the so below aspect involves self-imprisonment or the unwillingness to step outside one’s comfort zone. It’s the impact of negative self-talk on your decisions. Together they suggest that invoking higher awareness can release you from that which doesn’t really serve you in the first place. Carcer inhibits while Nauthiz frees you from that ego-imposed inhibition.
For today’s cards, I drew the 4 of Cups, The Fool, and the 3 of Cups, so we have two cards from the Minor Arcana, and one from the Major Arcana, There is also a run on Cups which reflects Elemental Water and our emotional state, adaptation, change, compassion, reciprocity, healing, and love. And there’s an overall numerology of seven which suggests observation, balance, legal issues, letting things settle, and magick.
Beginning with the 4 of Cups, we see a man sitting with his back against an oak tree with his arms and legs crossed. A cross also appears on his garment. A hand reaches out from a cloud holding a golden chalice while three more appear upright on the ground in front of him. His posture is defensive, and he’s unable to see what’s being offered or whatever emotional strength he already has. His defensive posture even appears unable to absorb the oak strength behind him.
Enter The Fool. I see The Fool with its zero number as the soul as it’s ready to take the leap into physical reality. He’s looking upward at the golden sky made so by the Sun radiating its light, essentially the collective consciousness from which The Fool begins its journey. His knapsack is over his right shoulder, a white rose signaling purity is in his left hand while a white dog excitedly jumps up at him, happy to go along with The Fool on its journey.
Considering the relationship with both of today’s runes, Nauthiz and Carcer, the 4 of Cups reinforces the idea of letting go of whatever emotions are holding The Fool back from pursuing something new.
Lastly, we come to the last card of the reading, the 3 of Cups, where we see three women dancing amidst the harvest that surrounds them. Each woman holds her cup high in the air in celebration of their shared abundance. The number three suggests communication, creativity, interaction, and triplicities such as mind/body/Spirit balance. And with respect to today’s runes, it suggests seeing the new opportunity from a broader perspective, with the end result of letting go of fear, trusting the process, and taking that leap of faith into pursuing something new.
So, today’s reading is suggesting that if a new opportunity arises, or you have the desire to create one, it’s best to let go of any negative self-talk or fear that prevent you from trying something new. In the end, the new endeavor may be successful and bring you joy, happiness, and abundance.
