One note about the order of the cards. Initially, I drew the 2, then The World, and then the 8, but it was clear from interpreting the cards that the order should be the 2, 8, and then The World, so I’m going to write it up that way.

Beginning with the significator runes, Ansuz represents Odin’s rune and the impact of higher awareness on our interactions with others. It describes clarity, but from a higher or soul perspective, along with divinity, eloquence, and spirit communication. Rubeus, on the other hand, is ego in its worst sense. Rubeus is considered an evil influence and one that involves manipulation of others. It represents a misuse of force, or an ego-based intention. And it involves the potential for violence or extreme overreaction.

Together, the significator runes for the reading suggest that the querent is experiencing a battle between soul and ego, or they suggests that you could experience the same with another person, with only you knowing which person you are, the one who embodies Ansuz or the one who embodies Rubeus. Applying this to a particular interaction, it suggests that the conversation needs to stay out of the ego mind and come from the higher mind which means that it needs to stay lofty and respectful instead of devolving into conflict that’s agenda-based.

Before we look at each card, the overall numerology is four, or pragmatism, structure, boundaries, grounding, respite, and foundation.

Looking first at the 2 of Cups, we see a man and a woman facing each other, with each one holding a golden chalice in offering to the other. A winged lion sits atop a caduceus above and between the couple signifying healing. A line of demarcation separates the couple from the home on the hill and where they are now standing. The man reaches and takes a step toward the woman, suggesting that he’s initiating the healing process because he may be the Rubeus individual in the equation. Perhaps he’s done something that was manipulative, for example, and he now understands that it was wrong to do so and wants to heal the rift between them.

One note, this could also indicate healing the polarity within and not involve two people, so keep that in mind if that resonates more than a situation between you and someone else does.

Next, the 8 of Pentacles shows a man working on his craft or trade. 8 reflects leadership, greater harmony, strength, and material recognition and approval. He’s out away from the castle in the distance and he’s both gaining recognition for what he’s doing and building his wealth by showing others what he has to offer. In relation to the 2 of Cups, after he’s become more in sync with his partner and healed whatever concerns that existed, now he’s free to move forward with his own contribution to their life together.

Building on the note above regarding the polarity within, if there was a need to heal the polarity within, there could have been an imbalance (for example, fear versus taking too many risks) that impacted your ability to move forward in your career in a responsible manner.

Finally, with The World we come full circle and synthesize all that we’ve learned and integrated into life. A nude woman is in the center wrapped loosely in a piece of fabric holding a wand in each hand. She’s surrounded by a wreathe with a red ribbon wrapped around it in a lemniscate (figure 8) fashion both at the top and bottom, while the four depictions of the elements appear in the corners of the card. The World signals completion, synthesis, and reward, and together with the runes and the other two cards, indicates that an understanding has been reached and because of that, true integration and success are possible. Instead of the Rubeus influence causing so many problems that nothing is achieved, when that influence is kept at bay and under control, we achieve a higher purpose that, in this case, may involve some sort of collaboration with someone else.

To sum up, something has happened between you and a partner that when healed, opens the door for new opportunities to build recognition, wealth, and material security. This can apply to healing a personal relationship, inner polarity, or a business partnership, but irrespective of how this resonates, the conversation that takes place needs to be lofty and informed by higher awareness instead of letting ego take over which will likely solve nothing. From there, you understand the cause/effect aspect of the situation and the importance of contributing to a shared vision which then results in a positive outcome.
