Significator Runes – Sowilo, Cauda Draconis
Cards – 5 of Pentacles (5, Earth element, Minor Arcana), 8 of Swords (8, Air Element, Minor Arcana), The Sun (card 19/1 numerology, Fire element, Major Arcana)
Overall numerology – Five: change, protection, innovation, variety
Beginning with today’s significator runes, Sowilo, the 16th rune from the Elder Futhark, represents the rune of the Sun or Higher self. It describes higher will and consciousness, energy, self-confidence, healing, and illumination or awakening. And as the link between Spirit and physical reality, Sowilo is comprised of Kenaz (the torch, clarity, healing, and higher awareness) both forward and reversed, and reflects the as above, so below aspect of our lives. Today’s geomancy rune, Cauda Draconis, as the complement of Caput Draconis, represents the tail of the Dragon, endings, and the impact of karma on our lives. Together it suggests that something may be ending, enabling you to invoke higher awareness into your decision, perceptions, and interactions.
Turning to today’s cards for more information, the 5 of Pentacles depicts two people walking in the snow with both people appearing to be injured in some way. The individual on the left is not wearing a coat and is using crutches with both feet bandaged, while the taller individual on the right also appears shoeless and using a blanket to stay warm. They both lean into the snow and wind as they press on while a church appears in the background. Clearly something has changed in their lives and they’re not destitute. And we don’t know if the door to the church is closed to them, or possibly they’re unaware of it as they walk by.
Next, we see a woman in a red dress bound and blindfolded in the 8 of Swords. A castle appears up on the cliff as she’s standing barefoot in wet sand while eight swords pierce the sand around her. We can interpret the card in a couple of ways, either as turning her back to her own thoughts and perceptions or to the chatter of others so that she can make a decision about what she’s been experiencing. If it’s her own perceptions, she may be going within to resolve or rethink her beliefs about a situation that has caused significant change in her life (5 of Pentacles).
At this point, we know that something has changed and you need to go inward to reflect on the situation and where you need to go from here. Security may be an issue, either material or emotional, but either way, the decision you need to make regarding it needs to be done in a dispassionate and rational manner.
Finally, when the decision is made, The Sun suggests that a new day has come and you’re ready to move forward in a new way. Given that Sowilo is the rune of the Sun and the higher will or consciousness, this aligns perfectly with this nineteenth card from the Major Arcana. We see a large sun that’s risen with its rays extending throughout the sky. Sunflowers reach upward above a stone wall while a child rides on a white horse into the scene while a red flag waves in the breeze. The child and white horse signify new beginnings and purity of motive while the sunflowers represent vitality and growth.
Summation
Bringing everything together, it appears that you’ve experienced some significant changes in your life and you’re motivated to rethink your beliefs, perceptions, and choices. You step away from the chaos and turn your back to both the inner and external influences around you and go within to access higher awareness so that you gain clarity. You realize that you need to let go of perceptions and choices that are no longer serving you in a positive manner. And when you do that, you experience inner growth and new possibility in your life.
Blessed Be
