Below are the reading notes for As Above, So Below for Monday, 31 July 2023.

Significator Runes: Laguz (clairsentience, intuition, flow in Spirit, imagination, emotional balance, harmony), Carcer (restriction – either self or other imposed, isolation, bound, outmoded ideas, fate)

Cards: 4 of Pentacles (4, Earth, Minor Arcana), Page of Cups (Water, Court, Minor Arcana), 3 of Wands (3, Fire, Minor Arcana)

Overall numerology: 7 – balance, observation, letting things settle out, justice, magick, spirituality

Beginning with today’s runes, Laguz suggests alignment and flow in higher awareness. It reflects clairsentience and intuition, but it’s really the idea that we drop resistance that the ego provides and flow unrestricted in higher awareness. Carcer, on the other hand, involves self or other imposed restriction. It can also describe a fear-based reaction as well as being bound by perception or outmoded ideas. Together it suggests that any self-imposed restriction you might be feeling today, allow yourself to invoke higher awareness and release yourself from that self-imposed bond that is keeping you from potentially moving forward.

Turning to the cards with the 4 of Pentacles, we see a king sitting on a stone bench out away from the kingdom. Each foot is placed on a coin, one is displayed on his crown, and he’s holding fast onto a fourth coin. With his back to the kingdom, he could be displaying to others all of the resources he has to protect the kingdom, although some traditional interpretations would suggest he’s being miserly. So, it could be that he’s holding onto what he has at the expense of the kingdom, however, I’m not sure the rest of the cards in the reading will support that idea. In relation to Carcer, maybe you’re being too rigid about taking a risk or pursuing new opportunities. The numerology of 4 signals practicality and pragmatism along with responsibility, so there’s definitely the need to be practical with the resources that you currently have. The overall seven numerology might suggest that you need to let things settle out so that you understand the overall picture before using the resources you have.

Next, we come to the Page of Cups. Pages are students, messengers, or news bearers and with this Page, we see a confident young person who is both imaginative and intuitive, so it’s clear that the Page of Cups aligns well with Laguz. There may be a new opportunity to think about where you can imagine or consider a new future. The Page of Cups, depending upon the surrounding cards can also indicate a pregnancy or birth of a child which would definitely impact your current resources.

Lastly, we come to the 3 of Wands. We know from the 2 of Wands from last Thursday, that the man stepped through a doorway of his own making to make a decision about the future. And then with the 3 of Wands, we see him waiting for his ship to come in. So, he’s made his choice and now he waits for that new opportunity to come to fruition. As with the 2 of Wands, we still see a doorway of sorts created by the two staffs behind him while he holds a third in his right hand, but in this case, he’s waiting for his decision to yield success. Instead of the typical blue color, the sky is yellow, as is the bay below him where ships are sailing, suggesting vitality, energy, and success.

Summation

With today’s runes, we’re really looking at opposite energies. Laguz reflects unfettered higher awareness while Carcer describes ego restriction. And the reading seems to surround how tightly you need to hang onto resources you’ve gathered over time. If you need to be risk-averse or conservative after looking at the whole picture, maybe that’s the choice you have to make right now. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t imagine a different future. After stepping back to let things settle and considering all the issues, you may decide to let go of self-imposed attitudes or restriction to pursue a new opportunity that can ultimately be successful. You’ve let go of any fear-based response and you’re allowing higher awareness to inform your decisions. But again, this may also be a time for planning and not acting, if that’s in your best interest.
