Reading Notes
Significator Runes: Othala (tradition, sacred space, Akashic record, protection, prosperity, ancestral heritage, legacy, loyalty, possessions), and Fortuna Major (greater fortune, achievement)
Cards: Death (13, Major Arcana), 8 of Cups (8, Water, Minor Arcana), and 6 of Swords (6, Air, Minor Arcana)
Overall numerology: 9 (endings, completion, spirituality, messenger, generosity)
Today’s runes suggest that awareness of tradition, ancestral heritage, the legacy we leave for others, represent our overall life experience that, in turn, fosters achievement and fortune. The overall numerology of nine indicates that something is coming to an end that may open doors to strengthening that achievement or fortune by providing a new opportunity to add to our overall life experience.
Looking at the cards, we begin with Death. We see Death, aka the reaper, ride into the scene on his white horse holding a black flag with a white rose on its face. We can see an inverted pentagram in the rose, inverted to show the focus on physical reality. The priest is giving last rights while the King lays dead on the ground and the Queen is crying. A small child looks toward the reaper and his horse. We can see two towers above the priest with the Sun rising between the two towers. Death is a card of transformation. The two towers indicate a rebalancing while the Sun suggests higher awareness is involved in that rebalancing process. So, it may be that something has happened, possibly outside of your control, to transform your perception in a manner that allows you to begin anew.
The next two cards, the 8 of Cups and the 6 of Swords, both suggest moving forward both emotionally and rationally irrespective of the challenges ahead. One note here that I didn’t not notice until I began writing up the reading notes, is if we look at the overall numerology of the 8 and 6, we have 14 that reduces to 5 or change, protection, innovation, and freedom versus restriction which is an interesting element to add to the interpretation.
Eight cups are arranged in an upright pattern in the 8 of Cups, with three cups on top of the other five. A space between two of the cups on top and the third is visible suggesting one might be missing, while a man using a walking stick is walking away. The Crone moon is in the night sky above suggesting higher wisdom is guiding the man’s choices. Craggy rocks rise from the water while large, smooth rocks are in the path before him. Cups signifies the Water element, so the man could be getting his emotions in order, letting go of fear, and moving on, again, irrespective of the challenges that are ahead.
Lastly, the 6 of Swords illustrates a family taking a journey over icy water during the winter. The man pushes the boat across the water while his wife and child are huddled against the elements. Six swords are upright, but pointed downward, yet not piercing the boat itself, suggesting that they’ve made their plans and, after setting aside any fear in the 8 of Cups, are now taking a journey into new opportunities.
Summation
With the card of Death, something has happened that has taken you outside your comfort zone, and you’re now ready to let go of fear (8 of Cups) and move on in a more rational manner to a new life filled with new possibilities (6 of Swords). You’ve stepped outside your comfort zone to let go of outmoded perceptions and the fear surrounding those perceptions and you’re ready to move forward to new experiences that can add to your overall prosperity, security, and peace of mind.
Blessed Be
