As Above, So Below for Thursday, 7 September 2023
Reading Notes:
Significator Runes: Fehu (1st rune of the Elder Futhark, cattle, wealth, transaction, abundance, growth, sending rune, life force) and Fortuna Minor (lesser fortune, progressive success, measured approach, details)
Cards: 4 of Wands (4, Fire, Minor Arcana), 5 of Swords (5, Air, Minor Arcana), and the King of Pentacles (Earth, Court, Minor Arcana)
Overall Numerology: 10/1 (new beginnings, talent, leadership), or for the cards only – 9 (endings, completion, spirituality, generosity)
Beginning with the runes, Fehu describes wealth that is transactional in nature and how one engages with others in a manner that promotes growth and abundance. Fortuna Minor, as the geomancy rune, involves the progressive nature of growing your fortune, in other words, the process you take versus the final outcome. Together, it suggests that we’re looking at how you create or the manner in which you derive your wealth or fortune and the need to focus in on the details of that process instead of focusing solely on the outcome.
Moving on to the first card of the reading, the 4 of Wands describes a wedding. The couple holds three bouquets high representing their new integration with each other. We see four poles creating the area under which the couple stood to take their vows. Two poles are on either side with garlands strung in an X pattern, similar to the rune, Gebo ᚷ, above signaling the coming together of two distinct individuals in love, marriage, and reciprocity. A castle is in the background with an arched bridge providing access. Well-wishers are on the lower left of the card. Given the Fire influence here, evidenced by the bright yellow color above and below, the 4 of Wands represents the couple’s new foundation and an opportunity to grow their new life together.
Next, the 5 of Swords depicts three men standing on grey sand while the body of water beyond isn’t completely calm. One man is picking up three swords with two more on the ground, and seems far too happy to be doing so. Another man is walking away, and then appears to turn toward the third man over by the water’s edge who is holding his head in grief. The number five involves change and clearly, an argument or disagreement has occurred with one man the victor. However, with the sketchy grey clouds in the sky, it appears that the victory was based on deception. So, whatever he’s gained, he’s done so at the expense of others.
Initially, what we have here are two ways to achieve growth and abundance. One involves creating new opportunities based upon a new foundation built on harmony and integration, while the other involves deception.
Finally, we come to the King of Pentacles where we see the King sitting on a throne with four bull heads on each corner. He’s strong and steadfast, responsible, and pragmatic. We see grapes all around him suggesting abundance, and he’s focused on building wealth and security not only for himself but also for the kingdom behind him. The King of Pentacles has the resolve to do what’s necessary to support his kingdom. He’s not someone who takes the easy way to success, but one who takes a measured and pragmatic approach.
Realistically, the first two cards of the reading illustrate the two approaches that can be taken to achieve wealth and financial security described by the the King of Pentacles. One involves harmony and integration with others and the other involves deception. In other words, the first takes time and commitment, while the second takes the easy way out.
SUMMATION
Creating wealth or financial security involves the manner in which you conduct yourself in that process. Are you focused on the outcome, or on the process you take to achieve that goal? Are you working in a way that is measured and aware of the consequences of your choices? Or are you working in a way that is deceptive and at the expense of others? For real financial security to happen, it appears that doing it in a way that is pragmatic and where you act with integrity may be the best choice.
