Exploring Tarot: 10 of Swords
In the 10 of Swords, ten swords pierce the back of a man lying face down on the ground. A large body of water that appears calm separates the man from a mountain range in the distance as the night lifts and the sun begins to rise. A red cloak partially covers his body.
The suit of Swords reflects the Air element and our perceptions, interactions, reason, balance, justice, truth, and deception, while the number 10 implies endings and beginnings. The ten swords piercing the man’s back could suggest a mindset or style of interaction that is negatively impacting his relationships with others. The number of swords used implies overkill, and the 10 of Swords may imply that the man has experienced strong push-back from others and has been mercilessly attacked for his ego-driven views.
Although the 10 of Swords describes an ending of sorts, it also suggests that a new day is dawning and perceptions that reflect ego can be transmuted into higher awareness.
