As Above, So Below for Monday, 13 November 2023
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
Significator Runes: Algiz (15th rune, Air/Fire/Water/Earth, elk, protection, bridge between physical and astral realms, higher consciousness, divinity; Carcer (self-imprisonment, isolation, outmoded ideas or beliefs, judgment, fate, restriction, evil)
Cards: Temperance (14), King of Swords, The Chariot (7)
Pattern(s): Two cards from the Major Arcana suggesting strong soul or higher awareness is influencing.
Overall numerology: 15+14+7=36; 3+6=9 (endings, completion, spirituality, generosity)
Beginning with the significator runes, Algiz, as the as above rune for today’s reading, describes the bridge between higher consciousness and physical reality. Although Algiz represents the elk or elk sedge and protection, in my opinion, Algiz also symbolizes raising one’s hands in supplication to Spirit. Carcer, on the other hand, as the geomancy rune representing the so below side of the reading, is suggesting that you may need to access higher awareness represented by Algiz so that you don’t become stuck in one particular perception or another and sabotage a decision you need to make, or react in a manner that is subjective at best.
Looking at the cards, given both Major Arcana cards, I decided to look at the two Major cards as guidance for the King of Swords. Beginning with the King, We see a King sitting on his throne with his sword slightly askew in his right hand. Swords reflects the Air Element and our intellect, rationality, understanding patterns, reason, truth, deception, and balance, and in the case of the King of Swords, he is analytical and logical, clever and powerful. He’s clearly the boss in any situation.
Coupled with Algiz and Carcer, the King of Swords may be suggesting that you need to make a decision from a place of authority, and you will achieve the best results if you turn to higher awareness than if you react with perceptions or judgment that could be limiting.
Next, Temperance shows an angel with one foot in the pond and the other on land. A red glyph for Fire is on the upper part of the angel’s white gown, and the angel pours water from one cup to another. There is a path between the pond and the two mountain peaks in the distance with the Sun rising between the two peaks. Temperance represents moderation and balance, and, as the angel pours water between the two cups, it suggests that the King of Swords needs to strike a balance between will and emotion.
Lastly, The Chariot reinforces the notion of balance established by Temperance. But in the Chariot, I really think it’s also suggesting that the King of Swords should know when to take the reins and when to step back and observe. As card seven from the Major Arcana, the seven numerology also reflects that same idea of when to act and when to let things settle and observe what you have left. While there was a glyph for Fire on the angel’s gown in Temperance, on the King’s breastplate you see a cube which is the glyph for Elemental Earth suggesting a feeling of being grounded. The King isn’t asserting himself in The Chariot, instead, he and his two lions are at rest. Although some interpretations talk about a sense of victory with The Chariot, I don’t think that applies here. I see this card as balancing action with observation and knowing which one to choose.
SUMMATION
Today’s reading may involve a decision you need to make (inner authority), or if you’re in a position of leadership with others, it’s suggesting that whatever you do must be done without your own subjective perceptions or emotions driving that decision. Instead, seeing the entire picture is favored from the standpoint of higher awareness instead of from the reactive ego. And if you’re in a position of authority, a more subtle response to a decision or situation in lieu of one that is authoritative or controlling might be all that’s necessary.
