As Above, So Below for Monday, 27 November 2023
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
Significator runes: Eihwaz (13th rune, Air/Fire, connection between opposites, as above so below, link between realms, trance work, protection; Fortuna Minor (lesser fortune, progressive success, positive, outer assistance
Cards: 8 of Swords, 7 of Pentacles, 4 of Wands
Patterns: Air, Fire, Earth are present in the cards, absent is Water so there may be an unseen emotional component to the reading. And I read the cards in a descending pattern
Overall numerology: 13+8+7+4=32; 3+2=5 (change, freedom vs restriction, protection, variety, innovation)
Beginning with today’s significator runes, Eihwaz describes the connection between higher soul awareness and the ego or personality. A natural as above so below rune, Eihwaz is comprised of Laguz and if you were to spin the rune, it would appear as the energetic spiral or vortex the soul takes to infuse itself into the body. Eihwaz reminds us to be mindful of who we are as souls in our interactions with others and in life experiences we have. Fortuna Minor, today’s geomancy rune, describes lesser fortune and the progressive nature of our experiences. It’s about progress or baby steps instead of the final successful outcome. So it may be that the overall focus of today’s reading has to do with invoking your experiences from a higher perspective and to understand the progressive nature of that.
Before moving on to the cards, today’s numerology for the reading is five, or change, protection, innovation, freedom versus restriction. If we see the five as protection, it relates well to Eihwaz and how the higher self can protect us from the ego’s overreaction and see our experiences from a less judgmental manner.
Next, we have the 8 of Swords. A card of Elemental Air, Swords reflects the intellect, reason, balance, justice, deception, and truth. In the 8 we see a woman wearing a reddish orange dress, bound and blindfolded, while surrounded by eight swords piercing the wet sand. She has one foot in the water and one on the wet sand while a castle appears in the cliffs in the distance. Essentially, all elements are present in this card. The swords around her may represent her own thoughts/perceptions or they could be reflecting the outside influence of others. However, as evidenced by the red dress and the Fire element, she’s exercising her will to go within and turn off the noise or influence either around or within her so that she can gain clarity about her perceptions or a decision she needs to make. Perhaps too much outside agendas are trying to convince her of something or it could be her own perceptions have been influenced by others and now she feels like that’s no longer working for her.
Next, after the woman in the 8 of Swords makes a decision, she takes stock of her progress in the 7 of Pentacles. Here we see a farmer leaning on his hoe looking at his grapes. The numerology of seven suggests letting a situation settle to see what you really have. Fortuna Minor introduces the idea of progression here, so after the woman in the 8 makes the changes she needs, she is going to take stock periodically to see if she’s living her true purpose.
Lastly, we see a man and a woman at their wedding in the 4 of Wands. We see their home behind them and the friends who are celebrating with the couple. But in front, you see the four poles (wands) that establish the area where the ceremony was held. We see four poles (two on each side) connected by crossed garlands above. One note that I didn’t mention in the video, was that the crossed garlands resemble the rune Gebo, which forms an X pattern that signifies marriage, partnership, and balanced energy exchange with others. So, it could be said then that the woman, after going within and discovering how she sees something or what it is she actually wants, has made a decision that involves taking stock of her progress. From there, a new relationship might form. We can also look at the two poles on each side of the scene as balancing the projective/receptive (masculine/feminine) aspects of self. And, perhaps it was that need that initially motivated her to go within in the 8 of Swords.
SUMMATION
Perhaps you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the influence of others and you need to take a step back and go within to hear the voice of spirit to guide your awareness. As time goes on, you realize that you’re really creating a new reality for yourself which you need to take stock of as you progress forward. From there, a new relationship or partnership with someone else could develop, or a new balance is growing within yourself. But irrespective of how this resonates, how you see your relationships with others may need to change so that you feel more in control of who you are and how you experience life.
