As Above, So Below for Thursday, 7 December 2023
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
Significator runes: Jera (12th rune, year, cycles, unfolding awareness, give and take, transformation, gardening, herbalism
Cards: 6 of Pentacles, 4 of Swords, 3 of Pentacles
Patterns: A run on Pentacles (Earth element, material security, finances, physical reality)
Overall numerology: 12+6+4+3-27; 2+5=7 (observation, letting things settle out, spirituality, magick, balance, justice)
We begin with the above or higher self side of today’s significator runes for the reading. Jera, the 12th rune from the Elder Futhark and comprised of Kenaz ᚲ forward and reversed, describes unfolding awareness that comes from drawing in higher awareness and then expressing the same to others. Its keyword is “year” and it involves the expression of cycles, transformation, give and take, and energetic alignment with others. Today’s geomancy rune that reflects the below or ego side of self is Conjunctio or union and joining. Together the runes suggest that a higher perspective may be necessary if you’re in a collaborative experience with others. Perhaps the situation is unexpected and it’s unfolding at its own pace and you may need a higher perspective to avoid reacting in a way that can compromise the outcome.
Today’s cards are all from the Minor Arcana: the 6 of Pentacles, 4 of Swords, and the 3 of Pentacles. Right away, we see a run on Pentacles and possibly something to do with material security. The overall numerology for the reading is seven which describes balance and letting things settle out so that you can observe what you have.
Moving on to the cards, we begin with the 6 of Pentacles. Here we see a man of means dropping coins in the hands of one of the two men on the ground. They’re both experiencing poverty, but instead of offering coins to both, he holds a set of scales in his other hand just out of his sight. It gives the appearance that he’s helping, but not helping to lift both men out of the situation they’re in. Even the coins depicted on the card aren’t in balance. So, it’s almost like when someone is lying while holding one hand behind the back with their fingers crossed. Instead of true compassion, empathy, or assistance, the 6 of Pentacles describes the illusion of such.
Next, the 4 of Swords shows a coffin with an effigy on top in a mausoleum where a knight has been laid to rest. The 4 of Swords describes allowing one’s thoughts to settle so that a new perspective can form. This card aligns well with Jera and the idea of transformation which, in my opinion, needs to happen so that the man in the 6 of Pentacles can better understand his responsibilities to others.
Lastly, the 3 of Pentacles illustrates a craftsman working his trade as two people come by admiring his work. Notice that in the 6 of Pentacles, the dynamic is the man of means giving charity to two people in poverty. Then notice the shift in position with the 3 of Pentacles where we see the man working his craft or trade and is now in need of something (approval, work opportunity) from the two people passing by. Instead of having the power over others that the man in the 6 has, now the man is in the opposite position where it’s he who needs something from potential customers. The 4 of Swords represents the shift in perception the man undergoes to now see what it’s like to be one in need (poverty).
SUMMATION
You may be given the opportunity to collaborate in some way with others, which may be a new experience for you. However, for this collaboration to be successful, you may need for your awareness to shift (unfold) so that you can be a more productive member of the group. If you are typically accustomed to being the leader and the one who decides the direction of the group, this reading may be suggesting that a shift or transformation of perception is necessary so that the collaborative experience benefits everyone concerned. It can also give you a better understanding of how collaboration with others can be a positive force in your life.
