As Above, So Below: Winter Solstice 2023
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
- Significator runes: Tiwaz (17th rune, spiritual warrior, oaths, sacrifice, higher ideals, justice) and Via (path, way)
- Cards: 10 of Pentacles, The Star (17), and The High Priestess (2)
- Patterns: 2 cards from the Major Arcana with a shared eight numerology between Tiwaz and The Star
- Overall numerology: 17+10+17+2 = 46; 4+6=10; 1+0=1 (new beginnings)
Since today is Winter Solstice, I’m going to do a Winter Solstice reading instead of doing the typical reading where we look at influences for the day. Winter Solstice involves the shifting of light time, marking the end of the dark and the return of the light. Although it’s the time when the Holly King dies and the Oak King is reborn, it also represents a time when we can reflect on the past year, let go of what no longer serves, and embrace the clarity of a new mindset that reflects a new way of seeing our experiences in the coming year.
Beginning with Tiwaz and Via, a new path appears to be forming where we embrace the spiritual warrior within and the idea of justice. It’s about a path that involves higher awareness and purpose instead of the ego driving our experiences. The overall numerology of one for the reading also reinforces this idea.
Moving on to the cards, the 10 of Pentacles depicts the transfer of legacy from one generation to another. The older man sits with a patchwork quilt over him representing his life experiences. His dogs sit next to him, while his children are standing under or just beyond an archway that depicts, among other things, the family crest. Like the Winter Solstice, the 10 of Pentacles reflects the passage between one phase and another.
The Star is next, the 17th card of the Major Arcana that aligns well with Tiwaz as the 17th rune from the Elder Futhark. The Star promises that our hopes and dreams will be fulfilled. She reflects new possibilities, transformation, and inspiration from higher awareness as we take a new path forward in the new year that expresses spirituality and love.
Lastly, The High Priestess represents the unconscious side of self. As with the 10 of Pentacles, the Tree of Life is behind her created by pomegranates instead of coins. The Torah on her lap represents higher wisdom and the need for that to inform our experiences in physical reality. The two pillars, one black, and one white, represent the balance between higher awareness and physical reality as well as between projective (masculine) and receptive (feminine) presence within. Tiwaz and Via also illustrate the same energetic direction of higher awareness informing the new path forward.
SUMMATION
Use this time of Winter Solstice to reflect on where you’ve been and the new path that is opening and allow the shift in perception to occur that takes you into a whole new spiritual direction. Let go of old paradigms and unrealistic beliefs or expectations and embrace the spiritual warrior within to walk the higher vibrational path of spirit instead of the lower vibrational path of ego.
Blessings to all!
