Exploring Tarot: 7 of Swords
Against a yellow sky, the King’s soldiers are planning their next attack. Ornate tents with flags flying provide the space for respite after the day’s battle. However, a man in the foreground of the 7 of Swords appears to be stealing five of the swords the soldiers left unattended outside the tents.
He is dressed in a servant’s attire, likely as a spy who was put in place by the village or town next to be attacked. A card of the Air element, the swords represent the soldiers’ battle plans, and the man is there to bring those plans back to his town or village to level the playing field.
When the 7 of Swords appears in a reading, it can either indicate theft of intellectual property, impulsive action, or deception on the part of another and the need to take back what belongs to you.
Reversed, the 7 of Swords indicates consultation with others when making plans or decisions.
