Exploring Tarot: Ace of Wands
As in all the Aces in the Rider Waite Tarot deck, a hand reaches out from a cloud, but in the Ace of Wands, the hand is holding a crude branch-like club. The force of its presentation into physical reality causes eight leaves to fall from the three small branches that continue to grow. A river winds through the land past three leafy trees growing next to the river’s edge. And a castle is visible on the hill in the distance.
The suit of Wands embodies the Fire element and its expression of life force is evident in the branch that continues to grow as if coming from an unseen reality. The Ace of Wands represents the creative spark within along with an expression of energy that forces its way into existence. It reflects motivation and new opportunities, and can also represent male fertility.
Reversed, The Ace of Wands may be opportunities lost or not pursued, or possibly a blockage of creativity or energy.
