The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
Ehwaz and Puer begin today’s reading as the significators or focus. Ehwaz suggests the intuitive or soul bond we share with others while Puer involves a lack of impulse control. Because Ehwaz is comprised by the rune Laguz ᛚ forward and reversed, it involves the flow from higher awareness into our relationships with others. However, the presence of Puer indicates that a lack of impulse control may be impacting our ability to flow in harmony with others.
Looking first at the 5 of Wands, we essentially see the impact of Puer and a lack of impulse control. Here we see five young men, each holding a staff high in the air. Although at first blush it appears that a fight has broken out, a closer look suggests otherwise. Wands reflects the Fire element and the expression of will, and it certainly looks like each young man is expressing his own opinions without listening to anyone else. So, instead of a fight or argument, the 5 of Wands reflects creative conflict without anything collaborative resulting (Ehwaz).
Next, The Queen of Swords enters the picture as she sits on her throne holding an upright sword in one hand and extending the other to beckon someone unseen to come forth. Clouds surround her while a bird flies above in the blue sky. The Queen is a woman in authority who doesn’t suffer fools who attempt to deceive her. In the reading, however, she may be a stabilizing influence on the five young men who comes in and sets the direction they need to go. If this reading involves a work situation, she may represent the person, possibly the querent (you), who provides the leadership necessary for the five men to be able to express their ideas and find a collaborative solution respectfully.
Moving to the 4 of Swords, we see a coffin in a mausoleum. Three swords are on the wall pointing downward while one appears horizontally on the coffin itself. A stained glass window appears on the upper left of the card. The 4 of Swords describes respite and allowing our thoughts to settle. The four numerology of the card indicates grounding, structure, or foundation, and it suggests that due to the wise direction of the Queen, the five young men are settling down and allowing their scattered focus to become more grounded. It’s deliberative and suggests considering each idea instead of everyone speaking at once (Puer). And when that happens, the five men can come back together and feel that intuitive bond they share (Ehwaz).
Lastly, I decided to take another card: The Fool. Card zero of the Major Arcana, The Fool represents the leap of faith the soul takes into form. The knapsack over The Fool’s shoulder may contain the soul’s chosen theme for this new life or the lessons the soul has brought into this new life. Either way, The Fool is ready to take the next step without any hesitation or prior judgment.
SUMMATION
I suspect the Queen of Swords represents the querent (you) in the reading. And it suggests that you may provide a leadership role for others to get them going in the right direction. It’s clear that everyone involved has to stop talking at the same time and listen to what each person has to offer and you may be the one to shepherd that process. But the outcome appears to be positive, even though it might take a leap of faith from participants who as individuals may want to have the most impact. Each one may need to let go of that attitude and trust the collaborative process to come up with an appropriate solution.
