Dagaz and Rubeus are today’s significator runes. Dagaz is the 23rd rune from the Elder Futhark and describes a new day. Energetically Dagaz expresses the energy of one period or phase ending and a new one beginning. However, the beginning phase suggests new opportunities or that all options are available. Comprised of Kenaz ᚲ in all directions, and Isa ᛁ to terminate each end, Dagaz suggests that its foundational energies involve alignment in higher awareness or clarity. Rubeus, on the other hand, suggests a misuse of force, overreaction, and an either/or mindset. Together, the runes are indicating that a new path might be opening or new opportunities are available right now which you can either approach with higher wisdom or with something more ego-based, however, we’ll see how the cards define that further.
The 9 of Swords, The Tower, and the Ace of Pentacles are today’s cards. Beginning with the 9 of Swords, we see a man either waking up from a nightmare or being unable to sleep due to thoughts that are plaguing him. 9 swords are arranged in a pattern that suggests pressure of some kind, either from the nightmare or from the thoughts you can’t seem to let go of, otherwise known as anxiety or monkey mind. Monkey mind can be a difficult experience to deal with, whether it occurs during the day or when you try to go to sleep at night. Keeping your thoughts in balance can be difficult for some people, and the 9 of Sword suggests that’s the case here. With Dagaz, the energy is there for a new path to open and aligned with the 9 of Swords, the connection between the two may suggest another way to deal with thoughts that are hard to process and let go of. The misuse of force represented by Rubeus could then be describing a misuse of force within. In other words, not letting go of thoughts about something that’s in the past and no longer occurring, is self-destructive.
Moving on to The Tower, this sixteenth card from the Major Arcana describes transformation or a rebalancing. Relating this to the 9 of Swords, The Tower may be suggesting that it’s your perceptions or thoughts that need rebalancing so that you no longer ruminate on situations you either have no control over or are no longer happening. Lightning blows the top of the Tower off resulting in fire and two people falling. Although we don’t know their fate, they could have fallen into the moat below and are safe, albeit wet. The Tower essentially describes something transformational that happens to upset your reality. But if your reality is focused on past issues you can’t resolve at this point, The Tower describes higher awareness that allows you to shift your perception to something more realistic. Relating this to Dagaz and Rubeus, you’re letting go of one mindset and allowing a new one to form, one that is less self-destructive and more positive.
Finally, the Ace of Pentacles shows a new path to increased security forming. Typically, the Ace of Pentacles describes a new path to increased material security, but in the case of this reading, it can be viewed more broadly. Pentacles reflects the Earth element and grounding is part of that. So, the path forward illustrated in the card may have more to do with emotional security and grounding instead of material security, at least initially. But as you let go of the monkey mind, a new path toward material security may open by you releasing old perceptions, beliefs, and fears that have been holding you back from choosing to pursue something new.
SUMMATION
You may be experiencing thoughts or worries about situations that are no longer happening in your present reality which are preventing you from getting on with your life. However, today’s rune from the Elder Futhark, Dagaz, suggests that a new path is opening, and if you don’t let go of thoughts or worries that are no longer happening, you may stay in the self-destructive Rubeus influence and miss an opportunity to achieve more inner security as well as material security. So, take the steps necessary to release the past, stay in the present moment, and be open to something new happening that can bring positive change or transformation to your life.
