Exploring Tarot: The Moon
An unhappy moon looks down on two barking canines, one a dog and one a wolf. The wolf represents the masculine or projective side of self and the dog the feminine or receptive side of self. A crayfish, representing the primitive self, rises out of the pond as if to take the path of balance that winds from the pond, between two towers to the mountains in the distance. The two towers on either side of the path represent balancing the triplicity of projective/receptive/instinctual energies within.
The Moon controls the ebb and flow of our emotions, with the potential of expressing lunacy. The 18th card from the Major Arcana, The Moon represents our dreams, emotions, change, cycles, rebirth, intuition, and transformation. The Moon also invokes awakening as well as describes illusion or deception.
When The Moon appears in a reading, it suggests acknowledging the energetic balance within. It can also suggest deception either from self or others as well as an increase of your intuition or psychic ability. Reversed, it may indicate pragmatism and a lack of imagination.
