As Above, So Below for Thursday, 29 February 2024
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
- Significator runes: Eihwaz (13th rune, connection between opposites, as above so below, link between realms, trance work, protection); Tristitia (grief, sorrow, sadness, becoming stuck, evil influence, ego, condemnation, grudges, secretive, quick to anger)
- Cards: 6 of Pentacles, Knight of Cups, 6 of Swords
- Patterns: Minor Arcana, two six cards, one Court card
- Overall numerology: 13+6+6=25; 2+5=7 (observation, letting things settle out, spirituality, magick, legal issues)
Today’s significator runes, Eihwaz and Trisitita, suggest that you could be stuck in a perception or feelings of grief that are dominating your life and that moving past those difficult feelings will take higher awareness to see the situation from a more realistic and loving manner.
Today is the 29th day of February, signaling Leap Year. The numerology of this 29th day is 11, the Master number for awakening, illumination, and enlightenment, and with the overall numerology for the reading as 7, both numbers reinforce Ehwaz’s message of higher awareness so that you awaken to a new way of seeing your grief, sorrow, anger, etc.
We begin with the 6 of Pentacles for today’s cards. The six cards in the Minor Arcana tend to illustrate inequality in some manner. Sometimes that matters in a reading and sometimes it doesn’t, but in the 6 of Pentacles, we see an imbalance of power: a man with power and two men without any. The man holds a set of scales out of his peripheral vision, almost as if he’s crossing his fingers behind his back, as he offers a few coins to one man while the other man holds his hands out on the off chance the man will help him. The issue with this card, however, is one of illusion. The man who holds the power is doing nothing that will raise the two men out of the poverty they’re experiencing. So, is he fooling himself into believing he’s helping, or does he know that’s the case? Tristitia can be seen as expressing an emotional imbalance when you can’t let go of anger, grief, sorrow, or perceptions. So, it would appear then that Tristitia aligns with the 6 of Pentacles and the idea of self-delusion or a feeling of stuckness. Because you can’t let go of something, you can’t see a situation in a positive manner, or in a way that understands all aspects of the situation.
Next, the Knight of Cups shows a knight on his horse, ready to cross the creek in front of him. His visor is up on his helmet indicating he’s not in battle, and he holds a cup out in offering to possibly the village on the other side of the creek. The village or town is implied, but the offering nevertheless suggests that there is someone in need that he can help. Reflecting the Water element, the Knight of Cups is passionate and chivalrous, supportive, kind, and understanding, and in this case, he may be representing the healing you need to do. It may also represent the healing that you’ve already accomplished and now you’re ready to offer the same to others. Essentially, though, the Knight of Cups is suggesting that as you heal, you release the hold that grief, sorrow, etc. has had on you and now you’re ready to engage with others in a loving way again.
Finally, we come to another 6 card, the 6 of Swords which shows three people taking a boat across the water during the winter. The 6 of Swords typically means a journey over water, but you still have to ask what was happening that made them make that choice, and what they expect to find when they reach the other side of the water. The 6 of Swords reflects the Air element and the intellect, balance, justice, truth, deception, and rationality, and it may be the final step you take to move forward and out of the focus on the grief or anger that you feel.
SUMMATION
So, we have the 6 of Pentacles that indicates being stuck in one’s circumstances, while the Knight of Cups shows movement (healing) out of that emotional/mental state. And then finally, the 6 of Swords shows that irrespective of the challenges you face, you’ve gathered your ideas and plans, and while the situation might not be perfect, you’re ready to move forward with your new perceptions guiding you forward. You’ve let go of the influence Tristitia has on your perceptions and you’re ready to embrace the message from higher awareness (Eihwaz). And on this Master 11 day, as well as the seven numerology for the reading, both numerologies reinforce the need to heal the grief within and shift your perception to a more present and positive place.
Blessings!
