As Above, So Below for Thursday, 14 March 2024

- Significator runes: Thurisaz (3rd rune, thorn, Thor’s rune, impulsivity, what opposes you, protection, giants, chaos); Acquisitio (gain, increase, excessiveness, adventuresome, goals, fortune, overconfidence)
- Cards: Temperance, King of Cups, The Empress
- Patterns: 2 cards from the Major Arcana suggest a strong soul or higher awareness influence; the Master 11 influence for the reading’s overall numerology reinforces the soul influence as well
- Overall numerology: 3+14+3 =20; 2+0=2 (lower vibration of balance, reciprocity, love), or if reducing the 14 to 5, we have 3+5+3 = 11 (Master Number, higher vibration of awakening, illumination, and enlightenment)
Beginning with today’s significator runes, Thurisaz, the 3rd rune from the Elder Futhark, describes what opposes you. Its keyword is the thorn, and it represents Thor’s hammer, protection, opposition, chaos, and giants. Acquisitio, today’s geomancy rune, describes gain or increase as well as excessiveness. So we can say that there is either an increase in a lack of impulse control, either on your part or on the part of someone else, or it could be that you’re gaining control of your own impulses today.
Today’s cards included Temperance, the King of Cups, and The Empress. Temperance and The Empress are both from the Major Arcana while the King of Cups comes from the Court. As soul-archetype cards, Temperance suggests moderation while The Empress describes birth and abundance while the King of Cups may be indicating some passive-aggressive behavior is a factor. In that regard, it could be said that a passive-aggressive response may be what opposes you or gets in the way of effectively dealing with something today, again, either on your part or from someone else who may be in a position of authority or control today.
Looking at Temperance, we see an angel with one foot in the water and one foot on the land, pouring water from one cup to another. A path winds between the water and two mountain peaks in the distance where the Sun is also rising. Two of anything on a Tarot card can suggest balance, and the heart of Temperance is about maintaining a balance between your will and your emotions. This would align well with both Thurisaz and keeping your impulses under control, and Acquisitio and the positive outcome that can be gained when you do so.
Moving on to the King of Cups, we see the King sitting on his throne while floating on the water. He holds a cup in his right hand and a cup-shaped scepter in his left. The King can be compassionate and understanding, or he can be passive-aggressive and unable to commit to others. Court cards can represent the individual on the card or the qualities they possess, and they either represent you or someone else you’re dealing with. For example, The King of Cups can either indicate you or someone else that’s an authority figure, or how you or someone else asserts control either with passivity or aggressiveness.
The Empress represents the outcome in the reading that describes giving birth to something new that results in abundance, joy, happiness, and success. She’s the Mother principle in our lives and we see abundance all around her in the card. Love, beauty, and vitality are other influences The Empress brings to the reading. In conjunction with the runes, she shows what you gain when your impulses are kept in balance and under control.
SUMMATION
One of two things are happening in today’s reading. Either you’re involved in a situation where someone is reacting in a passive-aggressive way and not dealing with what’s happening, or it’s you who is responding in a passive-aggressive manner. Either way, someone is trying to control the outcome without really solving the problem. Thurisaz describes what opposes you, again, either involving someone else, or your own issues that prevent you from dealing effectively with a problem or situation.
Temperance could be offering the solution of maintaining a balance between will (aggression) and emotions (passivity). If this applies to an authority figure, say, at work, for example, then that person may need to lead but has trouble doing so. But if this applies to you, the querent in today’s reading, the reading may be suggesting that you strike a better balance in your life so you can help solve problems instead of controlling the outcome either passively or aggressively. The overall numerology for the reading, however, suggests there is an opportunity for higher awareness or clarity to understand the impact of your own passive-aggressive response. The Empress card that ends the reading demonstrates the new life you create for yourself when you’re able to let go of control and come to the center with others in compassion and understanding.
