Exploring Tarot: 9 of Swords
A woman sits up in bed covered by a quilt with her hands covering her face. Nine swords are arranged in a progressive pattern on the wall next to her. On the side of the bed, a scene is carved that depicts conflict. The 9 of Swords is typically interpreted as awakening from a horrible nightmare; however, another interpretation might be that the woman has yet to sleep, instead plagued by negative thoughts that she cannot let go.
Although order is present with the quilt and the arrangement of the swords, she can’t seem to escape their influence. And when the 9 of Swords appears in a reading, it can suggest feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and fear. The inner turmoil is just too much and the suffering you’re experiencing is all-encompassing.
Reversed, the 9 of Swords suggests that you’re working through the issues that have been keeping you up at night and you’re beginning to heal.
