As Above, So Below for Thursday, 20 June 2024; Summer Solstice
The reading notes for today’s reading are below. You’re welcome to watch the video here.
Today’s reading reflects the energy and esoteric meaning of the Summer Solstice when we nourish the seeds we’ve planted in the Spring or the intentions we’ve cast. It’s the time when we honor the light within and watch our intentions grow and develop over the coming months.
Instead of simply drawing a rune from the Elder Futhark bag and throwing down the four elemental geomancy runes to discover the reading’s geomancy rune, I selected Sowilo, the rune of the Sun, and Fortuna Minor, the geomancy rune that describes progressive success. Sowilo represents Elemental Fire and expressions of will, energy, healing, higher awareness, and self-confidence. Fortuna Minor adds the idea of paying attention to details and making sure that everything is proceeding as planned. I also selected The Sun card from my Tarot deck as the significator for the Summer Solstice and I placed that at the top of the reading. Note: Sowilo is the 16th rune from the Elder Futhark and it has a seven numerology, the same as the overall numerology of the reading; however, The Sun card numerology of one isn’t included in the overall numerology.
Today’s cards are The Emperor, the fourth card from the Major Arcana, the Ace of Swords, and the 4 of Swords. Right away, we see two cards from the suit of Swords, so a strong Elemental Air focus, and two cards with a four numerology. From both, we can assume that our intellectual focus during this period is governed by practicality and attention to detail. However, let’s look at each card to discover more.
Beginning with the two cards from the Suit of Swords, Ace of Swords, we see a hand reaching out from a cloud with the energy of Spirit emanating as it forcefully presents a sword that pierces a crown with a palm frond and an olive branch hanging from it. The Ace of Swords describes the genesis of intellect and everything that comes from the Suit of Swords: communication, details, justice, balance, truth, and deception. In this case, The Ace of Swords could be describing the attention to detail necessary to nurture whatever your intention is, whether it be, for example, nurturing growth in the garden, some inner work you’re doing on yourself, a new course of study, or a new project at home or work.
The 4 of Swords reinforces the idea of attention to detail as well as the process taken. Four represents structure, grounding, and foundation. However, it also represents practicality and pragmatism. The 4 of Swords essentially describes letting your thoughts settle and allowing your mind to rest, and it dovetails well with Fortuna Minor and the idea of not allowing your thoughts to become scattered, observing the process, and making the most of what you’re doing.
Lastly, The Emperor, the fourth card from the Major Arcana, is a strong presence who represents authority, pragmatism, and calling the shots. He takes responsibility for making sure the process you’re engaged in remains grounded, focused, and done correctly. He also keeps you on the path toward a successful outcome.
The overall message of today’s Summer Solstice reading suggests that the growth and development that was initiated at an earlier time are best nourished by pragmatism, focus, and an attention to detail, and not becoming distracted from achieving the intended goal. The decisions you make along the way to keep yourself on task are made in a balanced manner and by observing the overall situation.
Summer Solstice Blessings to all!
