Exploring Tarot: Knight of Wands
Prince of the Chariot of Fire. A Knight in battle attire rides atop his steed on a journey, possibly a spiritual quest, through the Holy Land. Known as the Prince/Emperor of the Salamanders, the elemental correspondence of the Fire element, his yellow tunic is covered in salamanders attempting to grab the end of their tails in their mouths in an ouroboros fashion. His visor is up signaling the battle is over and he holds his club confidently in his right hand, his left holding the reins while his horse rears up in excitement. Three pyramids resembling those in Giza are to his right in the lower left area of the card.
As with all Court cards, the Knight of Wands can represent a dynamic person who enters the querent’s life or possibly the qualities that the querent possesses himself (or herself).
The Knight of Wands is a fiery and passionate presence, ready for action and adventure. He is young, creative, protective, and when upright in a reading suggests you’re ready to take a risk on behalf of others. Reversed in a reading, the Knight of Wands can indicate arrogance or cruelty, or a lack of impulse control.
