Herbal Magick: Angelica
Angelica, Angelica archangelica
Also known as garden angelica and masterwort/root, Angelica is ruled by The Sun in Leo. Its element is Fire, its day is Sunday, and its magickal power is To Will. Its energetic effect is masculine/projective. Associated Deities are Venus, Michael (archangel), and Aratron (Olympic Spirit)
Use in Rituals, Spells, and Magickal Workings
The root can be used in magickal workings, the dried root left whole, chopped up, or powdered. Gathered during the hour of The Sun or Jupiter, angelica can be used in protection spells to protect against negativity in all forms, to ward off baneful witchcraft, to remove hexes and curses, for exorcism or banishing evil entities or spirits, and for workings to that extend blessings, create harmony, balance, and healing.
Magickal Methodologies
- Dried Angelica root can be used in mojo/charm/gris gris/hex bags, or carry a piece of the root with you for protection.
- Make a decoction from the root that you use to asperge an area of negativity, curses, or hexes. Agrimony decoction can also be added to a ritual wash of some kind for healing, cleansing, and protection.
- Use alone or add to other herbs to create incense for protection, healing, and higher vision.
- Burn the dried herb in a cauldron to cleanse an area of negativity, in a circle or sacred space as protection and to block baneful magicks, or to raise one’s vibration to access the astral realm. Angelica can also be burned to achieve harmony and balance.
- Sprinkle powdered root around the altar or workspace, or your home for purification and protection.
