Herb Magick: Chamomile
Chamomile, Anthemis nobilis, matricaria chamomilla, chamomilla recutita
Also known as Roman chamomile and English Chamomile, The Sun, and the astrological sign Libra, rule Chamomile. Its element is Fire, its direction is South, its day is Sunday, and its magickal power is To Will. Its energetic effect is masculine, projective, and active. Associated Deities are Brigid (goddess), Michael (archangel), and Och (Olympic Spirit)
Use in Rituals, Spells, and Magickal Workings
The flowers from the Chamomile plant can be used in magickal workings, fresh or dried. Chamomile is used in workings to remove worries, bring calm, and increase healing. It’s used to create balance, to offer blessing, in meditation, and to protect finances. Chamomile can be burned as part of an herbal incense on Litha and Yule.
Magickal Methodologies
- Fresh or dried Chamomile flowers can be used whole on the altar or workspace to create balance, calm worries, and stimulate healing. Place chamomile around anyone who is ill for additional healing power.
- Dried Chamomile flowers can be added to mojo or charm bags, in witch bottles, or on the altar or workspace to enhance a working or a meditation.
- Chamomile flowers can be used in various ceremonies, including handfasting and birthing.
- Add to herbal incense during Litha and Yule celebrations
- Float fresh Chamomile flowers in a bowl of water along with other flowers such as borage or lavender.
