SUMMATION
Today’s reading begins with Othala and Puer. Othala, the 24th rune from the Elder Futhark, describes the sacred space and legacy we establish in our lives. Othala protects, reflects prosperity, invokes balance, and creates peace. Puer, on the other hand, describes impulsiveness and reflects an unstable force. The overall numerology of three for the reading indicates how we might integrate higher awareness both within and without, or, in other words, how we draw in higher awareness and then express it outward in our interactions and our lives.
Beginning with the Queen of Swords, we have a woman in authority who expects honesty and integrity from others. Given the other two cards and the planet Mercury beginning its retrograde today, we could consider the Queen’s counsel instead as one that involves looking within to see if you’re being honest with yourself or allowing impulsivity to impact your emotions and actions.
The 8 of Cups and the 7 of Wands indicated challenges, one involving emotions, and the other involving the expression of will. In the 8 of Cups, we see eight cups stacked together as if taking stock of what emotions will serve you best in the future, while a man walks away in another direction. He’s walking uphill assisted by a walking stick, and rocks are in the path ahead of him suggesting that there could be challenges ahead, but now that he’s let go of emotions that no longer serve him, he has the inner strength to move on irrespective of the path ahead.
Another type of challenge is seen in the 7 of Wands where the man seems to have reacted quickly and is unprepared to look at the challenges that he’s defending against. So, the 7 of Wands may be suggesting that you’re reacting willfully to deal with challenges that, due to how you see it, are really of your own making. In short, are you defending something that is, in reality, an illusion? Taking the 7 of Wands and the 8 of Cups together, you may realize that your emotions are entangled with your will and you’re reacting in a way that not only keeps you from being honest with yourself but also prevents you from making necessary changes.
Today’s reading may be asking, are you being honest with yourself about your feelings and then how you act on them? To experience the sacred space within and then express that to others, are you creating that from higher awareness or are you allowing the ego’s lack of impulse control to impact your perceptions and reactions? With Mercury in retrograde, it’s important to pause before coming to a conclusion or decision that may not reflect the truth of the situation, and today’s reading may be reinforcing that counsel.
