Hops, Humulus lupulus
The planet Mars and the sign Aries rule the Hops plant. Its element is Fire, its direction is South, its day is Tuesday, and its magickal power is To Will. The energetic effect of Hops is masculine, projective, and active; and, its associated Deities are Uriel (archangel), and Phaleg (Olympic Spirit).
Use in Rituals, Spells, and Magickal Workings
Hops strobiles can be used in magickal workings, fresh, dried, or powdered to assist in aligning and rebalancing energies, in divination, and for healing.
Magickal Methodologies
- Fresh or dried Hops strobiles (flowers) can be used whole on the altar or workspace during magickal workings.
- Dried Hops strobiles can be added to mojo or charm bags and then carried with you to influence a desired outcome.
- Dried Hops strobiles can be powdered and then added to a simmer pot or powdered to the top of a candle (pillar, votive, tea light).
- You can also anoint a candle with oil and then roll the candle in powdered Hops strobiles.
- Make a Hops infusion with fresh or dried strobiles, and then use the infusion to paint on a small piece of parchment paper or runestock to enhance a working. For example, paint the infusion on a piece of runestock (or parchment paper rolled into a small scroll) prior to creating a bindrune to carry with you or to invoke rune magick.
