A few years ago, I created The Reckoning Spread to gain clarity about a difficult situation. I established the first position as the issue itself or what was at stake. I knew that deception or manipulation was happening, so I designated the second card position to describe that. The third position would then describe the difficulty experienced or perhaps what was preventing progress or the solution from being found. The fourth position I used to describe the damage caused from the situation. And lastly, the fifth position dealt with more than just the outcome. Because I knew that an individual was the catalyst for the problem, the word, reckoning, or the calling to account of someone’s actions, seemed an appropriate addition to the outcome as well as for the title of the spread.
- The issue or what is at stake
- What was promised, or the manipulation/con itself
- The difficulty or what’s missing, lacking, or preventing progress or a solution
- The damage done
- The reckoning itself
Now that things are a mess in the US and impacting the world at large, after initially doing a two-card reading I published on 8 February 2025 titled, Now and the Future, now that we’re seeing in real time the destruction happening to people as well as the effective management of the government, I wanted to take another look using the Reckoning Spread to see if there were details that would define this further.
In position one, The World Reversed suggests that we come full circle with the individual in question again in the White House. However, any success regarding the destruction he’s imposing may be ill-fated and likely not to succeed in its entirety. It’s not that there won’t be damage because if the last month is any indicator, there will be plenty, but positive forces could also interfere with or intervene against the illegal actions designed to cause pain and chaos here in this country and around the world. In other words, things may not turn out the way he wants.
The Page of Pentacles sits in position two and describes what was promised or the con/manipulation itself. Pages reflect new beginnings, and this Page suggests that the individual conned others with the promise of common-sense solutions to problems that were essentially manufactured to create concern and chaos that only he could solve. Among other things, he claimed his supporters could count on him to make the country better, their financial situation better, and their health better.
However, the second Page in the reading, the Page of Cups, in position three, describes the difficulty that a lack of realism or discernment might bring. Initially, the supporters idealized and, therefore, believed in this man and his message and thought he would make everything better for them. Unfortunately, they were unable to discern the real truth of who he was and responded emotionally to someone who they believed was just like them and would save them in some way.
The Devil card in position four describes the damage a malignant ego can do when it keeps people chained to their unrealistic desires, especially if it takes the form of a powerful liar. It suggests fear-based reactions to lies, along with general ignorance or a lack of critical thinking. Clearly, this results in giving one’s fate away to someone who acts in his own self-interest at the expense of others. It may also reflect the racism, sexism, violence, and arrogance of both the would-be dictator and his supporters. In reality, his supporters gave over their own fate and in turn the fate of both a country and the world to someone who manipulated and conned them to do so.
The would-be dictator’s reckoning, in the fifth position, comes in the form of the 2 of Cups and its expression of love and healing. The home on the hill in the background may in this case reflect America as the so-called shining city on the hill while the man and woman in the front of the card reflect the nation’s people as they reach toward each other in healing. Whatever chaos the would-be dictator thought he could create to destroy democracy will be thwarted by the people themselves healing the rift the conman intentionally manufactured, ultimately coming together in common purpose to say no to a dictator whose true allegiance was not to the people at all, but in fact to the country’s enemies.
It’s always appeared with this man that the last thing he wanted to come to light was the truth of who he actually is and what his motives are. Instead, he has lied continually about what the problems are as well as who is responsible for those problems. Instead of it being the billionaire class and others with a similar agenda of upending democracy for a billionaire/transnational organized crime/theocratically controlled country and world versus the people/citizens, the accepted destructive narrative has always pitted the right versus left, conservative versus liberal, with the left always vilified as the source of the problem. The people have been conned to believe this lie for decades now, when in fact, it’s been the ultra rich and certain theological groups versus the people as a whole.
So, the reading suggests that, in the end, the truth will be revealed, and healing can then take place. The true enemy will be revealed no matter how hard those in power wish it to remain hidden. Although time will tell what the ultimate outcome will be, the reckoning itself may play out with the incarceration of those who preyed on the misplaced trust of others.
These are difficult times in which we find ourselves. The last thing we can do, however, is let evil win.
