Magickal Workings At Night

At night, no one bothers me. I’m in my zone, so focused that I hear no one. As others wind down after their day, my energy spikes and I’m good for hours. I spend time with my herbs, creating medicines, ritual oils and incenses. I write in my blog, organize my work area, or study. I love the time to myself. And I really think I do my best work at night.

The midnight hour is special to a witch, the three o’clock hour as well. Dusk and dawn are also special, where sight softens and energies align and resonate. Magickal workings align with not only moon phase, but also the day itself. I reserve night time for divination and spiritual workings, psychic awareness and hedgeriding. Healing old wounds and letting go of what no longer serves, banishing rituals and spells for revealing secrets can also be performed during these hours.

If the moon is waxing, magickal workings involving increase may be performed such as spells to draw love or prosperity. If in its waning phase, magickal workings involving decrease such as banishing or sending something away may be performed.

Moon energy is strongest at her Fullest aspect as Mother, and during her Dark aspect as Crone. The Dark Moon is my favorite. It’s quiet then, and I can converse with Goddess and whomever else I happen to encounter. It’s a time of centering and calling back scattered energies, for me best done in the midnight hour.

The night has been another world for me for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I would never go to sleep until long after everyone else had. I could think clearly, away from the noise of everyone else’s energy. Too much goes on during daylight hours. At night, I could read, my focus finally uninterrupted. I could wander about, without being seen, never turning on a light, yet always finding my way. I was crafting my awareness without even realizing it.

All done in the shadow of the night, where I find my home still..
