The Blessed Conduit
My first love in divination is rune divination and magick. So it’s nice when I can use a runic spread to define a tarot reading. Algiz is the rune I’ve used today and represents protection and a connection with Divine Presence. Known as a guardian rune, its top three branches represent Elemental Air, Fire, and Water creating the Bifrost Bridge between nonphysical and physical aspects of Self.
Beginning at the top center, the Son of Swords begins the reading as the originating situation affecting or influencing the will. To the left, the 2 of Wands represents the effect of our intellect on the situation, with the 9 of Pentacles depicting the effect of our emotions on the same. Representing hidden potential, the 6 of Wands is placed in line under the Son of Swords with The Star signifying our place of inner power.
Air, Fire, and Earth are the elements represented and the overall numerology of the reading is 7, or the number for magick, intuition, and our sacred divinity and connection to Higher Consciousness. Perfect synchronicity with the Algiz rune.
The Son of Swords is known as the Prince in other decks and represents courage, intellect, and integrity. An owl with a sword in its talons swoops downward toward its prey. This young man’s intellect leads his choices and tends to do what he thinks is right, eagerly awaiting the next challenge. He can be controlling of both self and others but above all, he is fearless and in the first position of the reading, the Son of Swords indicates that a situation exists in which our intellect is influencing our will, so perhaps we’re experiencing some hesitancy over a decision we need to make.
The 2 of Wands depicts two crude wands, their tips pointing toward each other. In the position of intellectual effect, the 2 of Wands illustrates balanced intention, will, and focus. We stand in our own power when this card appears and all options are available to us at this time. A tension of sorts exists, creative and focused. The shape itself also depicts a doorway to further intellectual discovery.
The effect of our emotions on our will is found in the 9 of Pentacles, a beautiful card from the Wild Unknown Tarot. Nine pentacles appear in a balanced pattern in the center of four feathers. Magickally, feathers correspond to Air, but they give a sense of loving protection and groundedness in this card. Traditional interpretations include living our ideals along with abundance gained while building our legacy. We’ve made good decisions along the way that we seek to maintain.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a blue butterfly rises from the brambles below in the 6 of Wands. Success and victory are traditional interpretations of this card. We’ve risen above our difficulties and we’re now ready to embrace new experiences.
The only card from the Major Arcana to appear in today’s reading, The Star represents the Blessed Conduit between physical and nonphysical aspects of Self, aligning well with the premise of Algiz. Representing hope and inspiration, The Star represents our manifested dreams, spiritual gifts, and healing. In the final position of the reading, it signifies that our most effective influence on inner power lies with our intuition. Aligning in our Source Presence then, we access clarity only our intuition can provide.
When we raise our arms in supplication, whether it be when drawing down the moon or in other rituals, we assume the position of Algiz, becoming that Blessed Conduit between physical and nonphysical aspects of Self. We make that divine connection with our Source Presence drawing in and extending those eternal blessings. When our will is balanced with our intellect and emotions, our manifestations are focused and clear. When out of balance, then that lack of balance interferes with the full expression of our intention, limiting any new experiences we might have.
With the presence of the 9 of Pentacles, it appears that we’ve risen above perception and aligned once more in clarity and truth, our intuitive sense guiding the process and ever present as the Blessed Conduit between physical and nonphysical aspects of Self.
~Blessings to all!
