I like the number seven. Not because it’s lucky, but because when drawn, it resembles scales to me, striking a balance of some kind. Three on each side of one in the middle, seven can signify the balance of polarities, between inner and outer awareness, and of physical and nonphysical aspects of Self. It’s also the number for magick, intuition, and the shadow-side of self. Seven also reminds me of the rune, Dagaz, with its left side representing a conclusion of sorts and the right the genesis of new experiences.

If turned on its side, Dagaz resembles the six-pointed Star of David prior to forming where the triangles are still apart signifying the joining of nonphysical with the physical. We strike a balance while in physical form and awareness of our nonphysical aspect of Self helps us maintain that balance.

Dagaz expresses our polarity, masculine/feminine, projective/receptive, and physical/nonphysical aspects of Self along with endings and beginnings. And lastly, Dagaz brings us to the point of enlightenment as our Earthly expression ends and our awakening to our Source Presence begins.

I decided to use a pentagram to invoke elemental energies and I drew seven runes placing each one around the pentagram. With Isa in the middle, I placed Fehu, Algiz, and Mannaz on the left and Nauthiz, Thurisaz, and Ansuz on the right. It’s interesting that Isa is in the middle serving as the balance point. Isa represents the static realm and the present moment. So it may indeed represent the pivot point of the runecasting.

So I’ll begin in the center with Isa, the still-point. A rune of elemental Water, Isa brings situations to a halt and assists in the development of the will. Representing the Norn, Verdandi, Isa suggests an inward focus and alignment with the Higher Self and provides a bridge to the unconscious realm. As the eleventh rune of the Elder Futhark, the numerology of Isa indicates illumination and the unconscious, so its position in the runecasting is both interesting and appropriate.

Beginning on the left, Fehu signifies wealth, success, and growth. The first rune of the Elder Futhark, Fehu sends energy and increases the effect of surrounding runes. Its influence is positive and increases our life force and its numerology of one signifies new beginnings.

Algiz, the fifteenth rune, provides a connection said to be the BiFrost Bridge, between physical and nonphysical aspects of Self. It represents the elk, safety, and protection and strengthens our resolve. Representing the elemental influences of Air, Fire, and Water, Algiz blends our intellect, will, and emotions and its numerology is six or harmony and the sacred.

An Earth element rune, Mannaz represents partnership and humankind. Considered a thought rune, Mannaz increases intelligence and rational thinking and fosters success and abundance. With a numerology of two, balanced polarity comes through illustrated by the rune itself incorporating Gebo and balanced energy exchange with Wunjo in both the forward and reversed positions. And a closer look reveals Dagaz as well.

The overall numerology of the first three runes is nine or completion. So we have the genesis of wealth that when based on spiritual awareness and harmony creates lasting partnerships and abundance.

Nauthiz, the tenth rune of the Elder Futhark, like Fehu, has a numerology of one or new beginnings. A Norn rune signifying Skuld or the Norn governing the future, Nauthiz frees us from restrictions while creating a tension within that brings our goals to fruition. Nauthiz brings change that is positive and allows us time for reflection.

Catalytic Thurisaz is next representing Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor. Self-defense and protection are the primary influences of Thurisaz and cautions us against overreaction and anger. Thurisaz dispatches enemies and brings order to chaos. The third rune of the Elder Futhark, its numerology focuses on catalytic energy that brings a feeling of wholeness.

Finally, Ansuz represents our source of inspiration. As the fourth rune, Ansuz fosters eloquence and grace and invokes Source Presence within. Considered the rune of Odin, Ansuz brings clarity and wisdom and increases awareness of our Akash. Intone its name when connecting with ancestors in Spirit.

Eight is the overall numerology of this side of the runecasting. Saturnian in nature, eight brings the influences of practicality and structure to our experience.

Typically we don’t reduce master numbers any further although it’s acceptable to do so. Eleven is one such number so I’ll set it aside and look at the overall numerology of 9 and 8, adding to 17 and reducing from there to 8, the same numerology as the right side. If we add 11 to that we arrive at 19, reducing further to 10 and then 1 reinforcing the influence of Dagaz on new beginnings.

But I wonder if it’s really a new beginning or more of a continuation bringing with us all that we’ve learned? There may be an ending of sorts, but the truth of us lives on irrespective of the bodies we inhabit. We are that same essence either way. In a sense, we begin anew each day, the literal interpretation of Dagaz. Going within allows us to remember what we already know and have experienced during all of our lifetimes bringing that awareness forward into new experiences.

Seven also represents our divinity manifested into form. We stand in its center, in the in-between between physical and nonphysical form with the awareness of as above, so below guiding our path. We know that we’re not the bodies we inhabit, but in truth, Spirit manifested into that form. The message of this runecasting is that we should balance how we increase wealth with remaining grounded in self-discipline and structure. Do we support others or are we in this life for our own purpose? Do we embrace the ideas of others or do we adopt a go it alone attitude? It would seem that the former is the better option.

Blessed Be
