Spread the love

I love Esbat rituals more than anything else in the world. Well, not more than the month of October, and definitely not more than Samhain, but other than that, I love Esbat rituals because I love being outside at night. The Harvest Super Moon was last night. I created an altar in my sacred space the night before just in case it was cloudy. But last night was spectacular, so I was blessed to have the opportunity to raise energy both nights. Two nights to draw down and exchange Blessed Goddess moon energy!

The weather was warm enough and although the wind was blowing, keeping candles lit in my sacred space wasn’t that difficult. I lit a mugwort and sage smudge and did some hedge riding. Hedge riding is a Hedge Witch practice. Traditionally, Hedge Witches are healers and gather medicinal herbs not only from their gardens, but also from the hedge surrounding the village. The hedge is also the area between physical and astral planes and that’s what we access while in a deep meditative state. I relax into being, extend out from my physical body, and move into the quantum field or aura that surrounds it. It’s similar to astral projection. We typically think of our aura as just around us, but actually, it’s much larger. It’s our own expression of the sacred geometry of Source, our merkaba, and it interacts and merges with other quantum fields around us. Some encounter angelic presence, family members either still in or out of their bodies, Guides or Masters, Akashic Record information, time travel (which isn’t a linear experience actually), and some just have a really great meditative experience. I never force the projection. I allow my energetic field to move where it likes. I only ask for whatever it is that I need to know. Typically I see my brother, Michael, although not always. Time while in energetic form doesn’t exist, so he always looks the same. Time is only relevant in physical form. And then only if we believe it to be so.

I’m fortunate to have a fairly large area in which to do ritual work. I have a labyrinth which I try to walk daily. As an empath, I need to stay as centered as possible to deal with the energies of others, and walking the labyrinth helps me do that. I like to include it in Esbat rituals for that reason as well. Plus it doubles as a circle if I need it. I prefer the idea of creating sacred space over casting a circle, so I have a private area next to my pond that I designate for that. The altar is within sacred space and I can sit there and watch the moon as she rises through the trees. The labyrinth and sacred space are incorporated into the garden and with the adjacent ponds, it’s such a lovely spot, resonating with the sounds of pond creatures all receiving Goddess blessings.

I use crystals in my altars, rituals and spellwork. The night before, I used quartz, selenite, and moonstone along with three white candles on the altar. I anointed the candles with full moon oil and included a power spell charm as well. It was after midnight on the right day, so I was somewhat close. Last night, the actual full Harvest Moon, I used pyramids and merkabas reflecting the upper chakras, along with aqua aura stones. Surrounding them were moonstone runes. White candles again, three, anointed with full moon oil, reflecting the Triple Goddess, Maiden, Mother and Crone energies. More candles, around the scrying bowl, reflecting elemental colors, and a mugwort and sage smudge stick burning in a small cauldron.

Drawing down Goddess moon energies is a ritual that witches and pagans perform to merge with the Goddess. Many experience this in a way similar to channeling. For me, it’s more about the energy exchange than a channeling experience. A pentacle sits at the center of my labyrinth. As my practice is solitary, I walk the labyrinth alone, calling to Elemental guardians to protect me from all negative influences. I invite angelic presence to join with me. I step into the pentacle whereupon I center myself, ground my energies, then after I achieve presence, I allow the energy to fill and cleanse my entire quantum field. As I achieve resonance, I extend my own energy upward, merging with the Goddess. It’s personal, beautiful and the alignment achieved is amazing. It’s the present moment, the Blessed Holy Instant. As above, so below.

As extensions of Source, we have power that is everlasting. Our physical definition exists in time and is illusory. Our spiritual definition is timeless and eternal. Our immanence is reflected in everything because we are everything. Through rituals such as this one, we consciously align with that immanence. We are the Feminine Divine. We are creation. We are change. We are balance.

And we are necessary.
