Cosmic Law Has Spoken ~ Runecasting for 4 May 2018
I haven’t used my black locust rune set in a while so I thought I’d use them in today’s runecasting. They’re a little larger than my hawthorn set, but they have a nice feel to them although I probably need a bigger rune bag. The overall numerology is twenty-two or the Master number for cosmic law so evidently, this runecasting has an important fundamental soul-centered message.
Mannaz begins the runecast as the twentieth rune of the Elder Futhark bringing influences of Elemental Earth to the divination. Mannaz represents humanity and partnership with others. Even the rune itself is drawn as Wunjo forward and reverse, connecting in joy and harmony in the center and when it appears, assistance from others may be available. But more than, Mannaz influences intuition and how the individual relates to larger groups and society in general so let’s look at the next rune to gain more clarity.
Destruction in preparation for something new to take form is a traditional interpretation of Hagalaz, the ninth rune of the Elder Futhark and of Elemental Water. Water brings a solution like none other, such as when my neighbors flooded my dome greenhouse last year, shocking my tomato plants beyond all hope. But as it can destroy, it can also bring life and Hagalaz, a rune associated with Goddess Hella and Urdh, the Norn representing the past, brings a sense of protection and wholeness to a situation with a positive outcome the result. It’s also considered a blessing rune for marriage and childbirth, but as a witch rune, Hagalaz casts the intention of transformation, even if it means creating the crisis leading to that transformation. Hagalaz, like the witch, brings truth to bear, and like the hailstone disappears when her effect is complete.
Additional power is available to us via Thurisaz, the third of the first three runes of creative manifestation. A rune of the Fire element, Thurisaz both defends and attacks, neutralizing conflict and situations which are out-of-control. As Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, this catalytic rune brings change and represents opposition, both without and within and counsels us to avoid impulsive reactions such as anger. And since Thor governs the weather, it can be useful in weather-working rituals as well to bring rain to crops.
Tiwaz, the seventeenth rune of the Elder Futhark, completes the runecasting with the rune of Tyr, the god of justice and sacrifice. With the Air element as its foundational influence, we’re encouraged to express high ideals and speak truth to power. Tiwaz represents the spiritual warrior within and strengthens self-discipline. In short, Tiwaz helps bring order and justice to conflict and confrontation and what supports the greater good.
So we have some powerful influences present in the runecasting. Hella, Thor, and Tyr are all influencing through the runes and bring soul-centered focus to the runecasting. In other words, instead of reacting with our ego, we’re to perceive our interactions with others from the standpoint of the Higher Self. Be the soul within, instead of the ego without. Clearly, some change is taking place and we have the opportunity to greet the new experiences with dignity and grace. A situation is finally righting itself and truth is on our side.
Cosmic law has spoken: whatever was wrong, is now being put right, integrity and truth ruling over deceit. Truth matters. We cannot go forward without it.
Blessed Be
