Adjustment, Peace, and an Irritated Queen of Swords ~ Tarot for 28 Nov 2018

This is one of those readings where I won’t come up with a title until the end. I’m using my Thoth Tarot deck today and all groupings of the tarot are present: one card from the Major Arcana, one from the Court, and one from the Minor Arcana. So, it’s already interesting. One, or new beginnings, is the overall numerology and Swords (Air) along with Libra bring an energetic influence of balanced intellect to the reading.

Beginning with Adjustment, a card that Crowley has moved to number 8 from 11, we see the female embodiment of the scales. Four orbs appear above and below her as she is encased in a diamond shape, perhaps the precursor to a movement into a Merkaba. She stands with her head bowed, as she balances on the tip of the sword she’s holding. Balance, self-correction, and justice are among traditional interpretations of this card formerly titled Justice. She represents the power of the Goddess within, unconditional love, and unbridled wisdom. Her blindfolded eyes suggest clarity may be needed or that we’re to turn a blind eye to undue influence.

A sword in one hand and a severed head in the other, the Queen of Swords reclines on her throne in the clouds. Never one to suffer fools, our perceptive Queen cuts through illusion and has no time for nonsense. She expresses individuality, is assertive, yet prefers solitude, particularly if surrounded by fools. The Queen of Swords speaks truth to power with integrity and resolve.

Peace is the title of the Two of Swords as we see two swords crossed behind a bluish flower representing the Moon in Libra against a geometric background. The swords indicate a balanced force or response, the initial conflict ultimately finding peace. Reflecting Elemental Air, the Two of Swords asks us to take a dispassionate viewpoint, allowing passion to cool somewhat before making a decision.

Decisions resulting in a just outcome seem to be at the heart of today’s reading. We see that whatever conflict we’re experiencing can be resolved with a more neutral stance. Along with fairness and order, Adjustment is providing us with the structure for justice to prevail, staying within established boundaries that preserve the integrity of all involved.

It seems, however, that deception or nonsense may be at the heart of the conflict as evidenced in the Queen’s choice of off with his head. We may be feeling that we’ve had enough, and we’re done with whatever drama we’re experiencing. We clearly are ready for some peace but not at the expense of our integrity so it may be that we need to stand firm or, as with our Queen, recline in our chair, and wait for a more respectful resolution.

One last thing about the structure of the reading. With one card from each tarot grouping, in a sense we have Higher Self providing the primary influence to an individual (the Queen) followed by the focus of the outcome (Peace). So even though this is only a three card spread, you can still see how things flow from one card to the next and so forth. Had there been more cards, there might have been more Court cards which may have shed some additional light on who the other players are in this scenario.

In other words, we might know the owner of that severed head…
