We Did It!!
Voters legalized cannabis in Oregon the other day. It won’t happen until July 1, 2015, which is ridiculous, but at least we did it with nearly 70% of registered voters casting their ballots. Oregon has vote by mail, and most of us vote that way. Those who procrastinate have to drop them off somewhere. I have no clue where that is because I drop mine off at the post office. Our area has a history of theft and destruction at our mailboxes, so I don’t trust that method. And no, Oregon doesn’t have voter fraud. That apparently only occurs in the minds of Republicans.
After January, 2016, applications will be accepted, and recreational outlets should begin opening. But prior to that, in July, folks can grow up to four plants, and possess up to 8 ounces. OMMP patients will remain unaffected by any of this, although some may decide not to renew their cards if the allotment works for them. It really depends upon their qualifying condition. It won’t work for me because I process my cannabis into more concentrated forms and then medicate primarily with those. I need the additional amounts that patients can grow for all of that.
The best part of legalization is that patients won’t have to worry anymore. Because, even though we are legal in this state, we never feel truly safe growing and/or medicating. At some point, the feds will stop causing turmoil and everything will settle down. But until that time, at least it’s legal here. No more assinine comments about why someone needs a card. I can’t speak for other states, but in Oregon, it’s not so easy to be approved for a card, irrespective of views held by the anti-cannabis crowd. Who lost, by the way. Actually, it’s more about the truth winning than anything else. Too much has happened as a result of the lie told. Maybe now, other states will begin to legalize as well. Alaska also legalized this time, as did South Portland, Maine. Florida’s medical law didn’t pass this time, but they look hopeful for 2016.
And because residents in the District are clearly more progressive and proactive than the lawmakers we send there to apparently accomplish nothing more than collecting a taxpayer funded paycheck, DC legalized cannabis. How cool is that! Given what just happened with the election throughout the country, staying baked will no doubt be a requirement in our nation’s capital. Everywhere else, too, because how else will we deal with what the Republicans are about to do all of us? Watching it all unfold on the news isn’t an option anymore. It’s one thing to know the country is going down the crapper, and quite another to watch it do so daily. And it doesn’t matter which news outlet I watch, they all say the same thing. Unless it’s Fox. I refuse to watch those people. Even when I see only a clip of something, I lose my mind.
By the next election, we should all know just how screwed over we were this time. And by we, I mean women. In the meantime, I’ll tend to my garden, take my daily walk, and send blessings of love and light to all. Tonight, however, I’ll draw down the Full Beaver Moon. Although known by other names, Oregon is the Beaver State. So the Full Beaver Moon it is!
~Blessed Be the incredibly smart people of Oregon! And Blessed Be Holy Cannabis!
